Hello,

This is a basic question, but I've been wondering which setup gives the best sound quality:

1) Recording music using a microphone setup and speakers, or

2) Saving music using flash memory and downloading music from the keyboard directly onto your computer (as, let's say, a WAV file).

For example, this video at about 00:55 / 1:17 talks about recording music from a keyboard using an amplifier that you mic (there are several videos about setting up your own home studio on ExpertVillage.com, so just type "Home Studio," "Music Recording," etc. in the search engine): http://www.expertvillage.com/video/2272 ... yboard.htm

I think everyone should get the most out of their keyboard, so if anyone has firsthand knowledge concerning this question, it would be appreciated.

you definately want to sample the out put to ur flash media so that you dont lose the power frequencies in the air trying to record through your mic

I've used the "resampling to .wav" approach and the results are usually pretty good. Some of my songs come out sounding duller than they do coming straight from the sequence, but if you import it into your computer for editing, you can polish it up a bit. I've found that if I have the sequence mixed the way I want it that I can just roll with it rather than messing with multiple tracks on the computer. I'm just keys and vocals, so it's pretty straightforward on the recording end.

I'm pretty low tech and am trying to learn the best way to approach home recording with minimal expense. It can be hard to get your head around some of this stuff, but you just have to take a deep breath and ask the experts (not me...some of the other guys on this forum ).

I wouldn't recommend mic'ing the amp. I haven't tried that, but it just tosses in more variables for you to deal with to get a quality recording.

I just put an unfinished song up recently on MySpace which was a resampled .wav that I converted to .mp3 without any other editing. You lose some quality converting to .mp3 also, but it's just something we have to deal with for streaming media. The song is "Dry" and it's on the solowork page listed below if you want to see what it sounds like. It definitely sounds better on the TE sequencer, but this is the quick and dirty fast food version.
