Battarypack Electribe EMX

Post by schampuuh »

hej guys,,

Im going traveling to australia for a year and im buying an EMX next week. Once i had an ES-1, an made an batterypack by connecting 6 x 1.5V (=9 volt) AA batteries, which let my es-1 play for a small 3 hours.

Do you guys think this is also possible for an EMX?
Anybody with experience/knowledge around about making one??

And if so, have you got any ideas about how to make a BIG battery which will let my emx last for at least 5 hours??

I dont have much knowledge about electricity, but im sure there is someone around with some good ideas.

Just wanne keep on making beats while traveling around you know ;)

Thanx in advance!!

this is probably your best bet

the mp3450

or you could line up 18 9v energizers in parallel and see how long it lasts you

the above is prob the best soultion (the battery pack), but you can increase the battery life of your homemade pack by putting two of your battery packs and connecting them in parallel, this still keeps that input voltage the same but allows both increased power comsumption by the electribe and extended battery life. Or you would prob get more power out of 2 6 volt batteries instead, connected in series like your AA pack. If you add more in parallel it wont blow your electribe as that just decides the maximum current/power, it doesnt force charge through your electribe unless there in series. Zalo i dont get why you picked 18 batteries? seems pretty excessive, and using single cells in parallel can be dodgy incase one shorts.

edit:in fact on second thought thats pretty dangerous with 18 batteries. :?

using the AA series/parallel combination is your best bet. read this, looked it up for ya, explains better than i can.

This is a great question as I've had the thought in the back of my mind as well.

Maybe this would be a great place to use the oft forgotten "D-Cell" batteries?? Looking in it up they have a light higher milliamp rating which it sounds like means they will basically just last much longer than a "AA" which I guess is just "duh", but several of those might be enough?

Definitely need rechargeable!
Back in my day, we didn't have water. We only had Oxygen and Hydrogen, and we'd have to just shove them together.

thx for the tips!
The site is really good..i learned it at school once, but this makes it way more clear to me! But am i right when i say this:

aa - aa - aa - aa - aa - aa

__ aa - aa - aa - aa - aa - aa +

aa - aa - aa - aa - aa - aa

This still give me 9 Volts, and the electribe just attracts all the mA is needs right??

I thought the electribes use 900 mA. What i understand of it is that it is no problem when i use batteries of 1400 mA, but when i would hook up 400 mA battaries (i wonder if they still exsist) i would blow the machine up for some reason i dont understand.. Is that right?

Thx for the help!

energizer's 9 volts are actually 6 cell batteries

the xtribes peak at 3000 mA and they get shifty at about 7 volts

9 volts drop down to 7 in about one third of their lifespan

split across 18 batteries, max drain is 166 mA per battery

at that amount each battery is looking at about 450 mAh

8100 mAh for the battery pack but only a 3rd of that will probably be at usuable voltage

i was just giving a homemade option

either way you are going to have to splice a midi cable to connect to the battery pack

i would like to know when it cuts out and you arent going to hurt your emx by trying it (as long as you dont have the batteries strapped to the back)

150 euros, its sais it schould keep you going for 30 hours or something...thats awsome. Probably very easy to reload that thing also, and it also looks way better next to the emx right ;)
Good option!

Now I do have my EMX plugged into this all the time so I guess I could go "battery only" this way. But it's not very portable.... Still I should see how long it runs just the tribe... :-)

hahaha man, that thing only looks like its huge! Buts its quite a good price though. Can you take a guess for how long its will last your electribe?
But these are the kind of options im looking for though!

thx for sharing

A car battery and an inverter will give you mains voltage for quite some time. You can plug in a whole range of equipment (like an amp, mixer etc) and get a damn loud system. Disadvantage is that an inverter will cost quite a lot, and a car battery is too heavy to carry. It'd make a sweet portable sound system in a shopping trolley though.
