Can the new Radias sounds (MS2000, MicroKorg) Load in M3 with a Radias v2 card?

No ... Regular Radias-R or whatever version, do not work in the EXB-Rad , or V2 ....

it would be very nice if there were Sounds to go w/V2 ExbRad update ..

and i hope Korg will covert their current Radias sound to work with the Exb-Rad ....

and hopefully some of the folks that convertred other sound sets will do the same ....

i'd be glad to pay a few bucks for these covertions .... even after playing keys for 40+ years .... my programming skills still are that great ..!!

i traded my Radias -R in on my M3 ... i miss some of my Radias sounds ...!! even having recently gotten my free Exb-Rad card installed .!

The MS2000/microKorg programs that were converted to the Radias won't work for the EXB-RADIAS, they are not format compatible. I wrote the converter tool that aided this conversion (and also the R3->Radias conversion). I've yet to get my hands on an M3 with EXB-RADIAS and the appropriate sysex spec, so I've not looked at this.

In theory, having worked with the Radias and R3 in some detail, some of the R3 and MS2000 sound might port across to the EXB-RADIAS pretty well. The EXB-RADIAS is slightly different to the actual Radias and it's baby brother the R3 so no everything would convert transparently, however there is an opportunity to put quite a few new sounds hands in the hands of EXB-RADIAS users. Actually, some of the EXB-RADIAS sounds might convert over to the RADIAS and R3 nicely too !

If I didn't have an Oasys, then I'd rush out and buy an M3 and EXB-RADIAS :-)

There are loads of MS2000 patches out there, just waiting to be converted, which is why I went for the Radias tool so I could bring all those over.

Daz, I hope you can complete your project of converting those MS2000 to be used with EXB-Radias. Wouldn't Korg be interested in this?

I know Korg folks lurk around here. :) Wouldn't you guys be interested in something that Daz has already worked on? I don't see it as anything other than a value addition to M3! Besides, MS2000 is already archieved too.

Korg are not sitting on their hands with regards to conversion either -> http://www.karma-lab.com/forum/showthre ... adid=11733

It seems Korg is working on it looking at Jerry's comments on the Karma forum. I have already added this request to the wishlist thread. More people should do that, I guess. MS2000 synth was/is awesome and to have those banks in M3 would be really cool!

Yes, a Korg USA Product Specialist is working on the RADIAS V2 sounds for the EXB-RADIAS. Doing ALL the MS/micro sounds that were recently converted for use in the RADIAS is a big task, and then you want ALL the MS/microKORG sounds ever made, right?

:-)

So a conversion tool is the best way to go, long term. We'll have to consider how to help Daz to get that done. Give me some time...

Jerry

:-)

My thought on this is to use software to convert the "low hanging fruit" ;-) Namely, converting all the single timbre R3 and MS2000/microKorg patches to EXB-RADIAS Programs. I sympathize with the Product Specialist doing the Radias conversion, because that's a more tricky conversion.

IIRC from my research an EXB-RADIAS Program is a basically a single timbre of the "real" Radias, but with a few differences; the effects are not in the Program in the same way, the DWGS waveforms are those from the R3 and there are 2 extra V-Patch slots. So most of the stuff in a single timbre R3 or MS2000/microKorg program will be covered. That probably covers a lot of the material available. So a simpler converter, whilst not comprehensive should yield a decent amount of material and be easier/quicker to build. Definitely more than a single bank's worth.

I've confirmed that. That is useful when converting to the EXB-RADIAS because the DWGS waves available cover more of those used in the MS2000 and microKorg, so will allow closer conversion. The Radias lost some DWGS waves in favour of multi-samples and of course you don't really need those in the M3 because you have the M3 EDS engine with a plethora of multi-samples already. So definitely don't mistake my comment as saying the EXB-RADIAS is more akin to the lighter R3, 'cos it definitely isn't, au contraire. It's a full fat Radias in terms of synthesis features, including many features that aren't in the R3 in it's architecture and ...

... those 2 extra V-Patch slots, that the real Radias doesn't have, are absolutely sound design gold dust. I guess that when Korg took the code from the Radias and ran it on the 2 processors that live on the EXB-RADIAS they had some extra CPU power available from not having to play multi-samples or do effects, and so added those extra modulation routings. Those extra routings are even more useful now that you have all the extra sources/destinations that were added in OS 1.1.

Folks have been asking me about this offline, so I should let you all know that I am not involved in this project at this point.

Daz,..if you can do it..go for it!! It is something I would be willing to pay for even if Korg doesnt foot the tab.. I would be the first to Paypal $25 to get you started and I am sure many others would follow!! What'da you say?

Our Product Specialist just finished the RADIAS V2-> EXB-RADIAS soundset, we'll get it posted this week.

We have some internal tools that can "start" the conversion of the other synths into EXB-RADIAS so I have actually done the basic conversion of MS-2000/microKORG. But that means I have "dry/non-effected" timbres, and any sound that used dual timbres comes up as separate Programs and need to be combined into a Combination.

So I'll need to find someone that can do the finalizing of those timbres and then we'll have even more sounds.

So we're making progress on all of this!

And I try to work with/help Daz when there is an opportunity so we'll see if we can pry loose some needed code info for some of his potential projects for Korg products in the near future.

Thanks to him, and to all who help and who care!

Regards,

Jerry

Hi Jerry,
you could have a very very happy customer if you could post them today, please.

Tomorrow is a public holiday in Germany, it is raining and I have a lot of time to try out the new soundset.
:3dthumbs:

Just a try, don't hurry
... and many thanks in advance!

I'm quiet and patient now. :-#
