PadKontrol & Ableton Live MIDI note problem

Hi,

I'm using the PK with the Live Light 6 (as included with the PK).
However I'm trying to make some beats with Impulse and here's where I have following problem. To lay down the beats in Impulse notes C3 and up are necessary.
Problem is that Live doesn't understand the MIDI notes being sent from the PK (a C3 on my PK is a C2 for Live).
Does anyone have a solution for this? I tried to solve this, but i'm out of ideas...

Thanks for the help!

Using Impulse with the pK

in order to make Impulse work with the pK, you can do two things:

1. either edit your pK scene to reflect the notes C4 - D5 diatonically

2. or insert the "Scale" - MIDI effect on the desired channel and set it up in a way that the incoming notes C2, C#2, D2 etc.. become C3, D3, E3 etc.

look at this:

(and note the "Transpose" - setting. My pK scene sends notes C2 - E3 chromatic - the Scale-effect alters them to C3, D3, E3 etc...)

yes, the above will help, as will the pitch plug

there are different interpretations of where C 1 actually is on the keyboard, this is why you see the one octave discrepancy

Hey guys, sorry to bud in but I thought it was better to post here rather than start a new thread about the same thing.

I just picked up my padKontrol and after playing with it and reading a few threads I see that Live and Reason both transpose notes coming from the padKontrol down one octave. and I understand the workarounds.

But I still don't understand why? I used Midihack to check what message was being sent and it looks fine there C3=C3 so why does C3 on the padKontrol = C2 in Live?

Thanks

it does the same crap on my k49. I have both pk and k49 and I occasionally get this crap.

Regarding the notes being transposed down 1 octave... I have the same problem with Presonus Studio One. However it does not happen with Reaper and Bome's MIDI Translator. Why would this be? Has anyone solved it or found a reason?

The notes aren't actually 'transposed'. It's just that different manufacturers and developers disagree on what octave numbers should be - for some 'middle C' is C4, for others it is C3 or C5.
The actual MIDI note number is still 60 for all of the above. It's just the 'naming convention'.
