Have i missed something? Was it not going to be released after namm 08?

Originally, yes....at least I thought so. Maybe Jerry can fill us in regarding the status.

First (and the only one currently) sample expansion for OASYS was released almost 3 years after OASYS' release, so maybe we have to wait another year or two.

Ok. It would be nice to get some kind of info on the EX-USB-PCM.

I don't think ex usb pcm will be a revolution due to they're hardware integration and price

and with 660 KB/s for usb2 transfert rate, don't hope sample streaming, you have to load sample data into ram each time you boot the machine (use sample CDs is less optimized but less expensive, and you will have more sound choice...)

When they arrive in 2012 it will be after NAMM 08...

Seriously though, I believe Jerry said they would be released sometime during this year, but not very early in the year.

As I understand it, the samples from the USB device will be loaded into the M3's sample memory, probably at startup. This will make the startup of the M3 slower, but changing programs/combis will be quick as with other sounds. I'm still debating with myself whether it was a good choice to use USB and sample RAM instead of ROM cards as on the Triton series. We'll see.


I hope we get an update on this from Korg soon. It'll be exciting to see what types of samples these USB devices will contain.

I dont care about streaming samples. I will be satisfied with an autoload function in the M3.

I acctually dont mind if the startup is slower. Im not in a hurry to start playing when I boot up the M3. Its not like it will take 10 minutes ...more like 30 sec to 1 minute.

more than a minute for boot up can be an important problem in live conditions

and loading 320MB of sampling data take about 8 Min

Korg needs to speed up the release of the EXS-USB-PCM expansions.

IMHO, many of the M3's acoustic emulations sounds are weak ! (we need better acoustic guitars, strings, brass, woodwinds, and World Instruments).

Larger and more samples for variety and velocity programming).

I wonder, why is Korg not giving us (M3 Customers) any pre-release info. regarding the EXS-USB-PCM expansion ? Makes no sense to me. Unless they will never be released. Come on Korg, it's time to speak out !

Hopefully we will see an entire line of new EXS-USB-PCM expansions during this year, which happens to be (2008 !).

I plan to wait till the end of June 2008, and hopefully Korg will release a bunch of EXS-USB-PCMs if they don't, I'm considering selling my M3.

Honestly, I'm tired of waiting.

If I was Korg, I wouldn't be stirring the pot before I had a viable PCM and a marketing plan. The've obviously been working harder than hard on the freebies that we got with V1.2.0.

NO ONE ( in the top 3) gives pre-release ' info ' on the the hardware side. At best you get a NAMM announcement/prototype , then 3 months later the new product leaks out.

You will see a pre release blurb on software but big whoop

Actually, you don't have to wait....even more so you don't need to sell your M3. Remember, the M3 is also a sampler, and a very capable one at that. It will read AIFF, WAV, Soundfont V2.0 files, and AKAI S1000 and S3000 files. There's a wealth of free sounds online, or you can buy sounds from the many established sample library companies.

I've put my older sample cd's to good use with my M3 for spot things here and there, and sampling on the M3 works like a champ.

If you're not into sampling yourself, I'm sure Korg will put out something in the near future with the EXB-USB expansions that will sure to please.
Hang in there! It'll worth the wait. The recent Supercharged Soundset release was sure worth the wait!

Thanks for the adviice..I will wait .. Hopefully, I won't have to wait till 2009.

Basically, here's the issue. If the M3's acoustic sounds were much better it would have been just perfect, but IMHO that is not the case at this time, well... some (or I should say ... few) of the acoustic sounds are good, but I'm sure Korg can improve the acoustic sounds of the M3 quite a bit with the PCM expansions.

Oh, Yes, I know I can sample my own sounds/instruments with the M3's sampler, which is quite an advanced sampler indeed, but that requires a lot of time, and experience, which I could do with any other sampler. (SW or HW). I can also load Akai format sample libraries, and I do have a few, but I have no intention of buying any additional older Akai format sample libraries.

The M3 is a Workstation, it would be great to have fantastic acoustic instrument sounds available at a touch of a button, and that is what I feel is missing at this time.

I'm sure the Korg team is hard at work, trying to offer M3 users better acoustic sounds, but it is just taking quite a bit of time, hopefully waiting another few months will pay-off !

By the way, does anyone know how the EXB-USB-PCM expansions will integrate within the M3's framework ? i.e. will they offer very fast loading of sample and programs from the USB expansions ? Can the EXB-USB-PCM samples and programs, once loaded into the M3, be saved on other external media, or do they require the USB expansion to be connected to the M3 ? ...etc. ?

Hopefully, I will get to enjoy playing some fantastic acoustic instrument sounds using my M3 !

has there been any more news about this USB expansion.....I had the EXB-02 and EXB-08 in my Triton.....I'd prefer cards like that..to a USB load at startup...

Just thought I'd start this up again to generate some activity..perhaps Jerry will have something for us now!?
