Program interaction in a combi, with example combis and prgs

I made a new thread for this so the original doesn't get messed up.

The question was about the interaction of programs inside a combi.

I was in a hurry and couldn't find a way to save only two combis and three programs,
so here's two combis and three programs and two whole empty banks in a 2Mb file. o_O
Don't overwrite your programs, make a backup if not sure.
The combis are in bank User-C and programs in User-B.

Combi U-C000: Karplus-Strong Test
Feedback alert!
This combi can produce very loud feedback if adjusted incorrectly, keep the volume down when editing.
This is a quick Karplus-Strong string synthesis test I made some time a go while reading
a book about synthesis techniques, "Sound Synthesis and Sampling 2nd ed. by Martin Russ".
This combi uses two programs User-B 000: Noise burst and User-B 001: Audio THRU.
The Noise burst is used to feed signal to the audio loop that includes 2ms delay
and EQ. And the Audio THRU routes the signal back in to the system creating a feedback loop.
You can try to modify the 'algorithm' by changing the EQ or swapping it to
a non-linear amplifier of your choice. Pitch is controlled by the delay and is quite
inaccurate, change the L and R delay together to change pitch and separately for nifty effects.
To play the synthesis you have to hold sustain pedal to hold the Audio THRU open, and
then saturate the system by pressing keys repeatedly, it takes about 40 notes to begin.
It is not very refined system, but it gives the idea and is good basis for further experimentation.

Combi U-C001: MS-20 S&H Example
This combi uses the program User-B 002: MS-20 S&H to chop up any program in the 1st Timbre.
The MS-20 is wired from EXi audio in to Sample & Hold, try to change the clock modulation
source from saw to square to get a different effect. Or re-wire the whole thing completely.
You have to edit in program mode and listen in combi mode, but you don't have to save in
between, just don't change the program.

The clue is to use the BUS system for routing the audio, I used the Rec1/2 bus in the
Karplus-Strong test and Indiv. output 1/2 in the MS-20 S&H Example.
As I have stated, the possibilities are endless.
I love the OASYS. :)

Woops ... I forgot to say that is the only way to do this. You can only save entire banks in a PCG file. Sysex is the only option for saving individual items but is not really practical I suspect.

I think the programming community would be dramatically more active if swapping programs was easier.
It would also help if there was an easy place to keep the files available.

I think the programming community would be dramatically more active if swapping programs was easier.

I loaded your programs and combis with no problem. I put it on my jump drive, into the OASYS, and then opened the files, so that I could load them individually. Cool examples.

I totally agree that the combi/bus system is where the OASYS becomes truly powerful and sets itself apart from all other hardware synthesizers. This is where you can run your drum loops/samples/synths through other synths' parameters, even combining the filters of source and destination engines. Of course, the Vocoding and Gating FX function in the combi arena.

Now, add that Sequence mode is like combi, though you are adding the possibility of running audio tracks into their own bus destinations (IFX - AUDIO ROUTING) and also into synth engines. Very powerful, indeed!

I meant the saving process, I had to temporarily clean a program bank for it.
