sequence name

I have saved some sequences and given them unique names.

They show up on my SD card with those names and I am able to highlight one of my choosing and load it back into the sequencer.

However, it shows up as "New Song" instead of the name I have given it. The sequence is there if I press START, but if I load more than one, they are all New Song and I can't distinguish one from the other.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi Zack,

What you see on your SD Card (XXX.SNG)is the file name, what you see in the sequencer is the song name ("New Song").

This is just like an mp3 file on your PC. The file name ("blahblah.mp3") does not have to be the same as the title of the song shown when you play it in winamp, windows media player etc.

Your file name can only be 8 letters long (plus .SNG) because of file system limitations, but the song name can be longer.
Also, you can save several songs in one file.

To change "new song", just load your song into the sequencer, press F8[Utility], select Rename Song, then re-save it to your SD card. Voila!

I was not aware that I was saving a file to the SD card. I thought I was saving the song to the SD card.

So do I have to save the song twice? Once for the file and then rename it after I reload it and save it again?

So far it hasn't worked for me.

I'll keep working on it. Any additional suggestions would be appreciated.

You must save the song to the SD card before turning off the machine, otherwise changes will be lost.
Saving a song to the SD card creates a song file (.sng).

To start, load the song file, change the song name, then save it again. You can overwrite the song file or
create a new song file by giving it a new name. When you load the song the next time, the song name should appear.

Another way to think about this is that when you save a sequence to the SD card, you're saving everything in the sequencer. So if you have three or four songs there that you're working on, you'll be saving all of them. Any song that hasn't been renamed will be saved with the name New Song (001: New Song, 002: New Song, etc.). I have several sequences saved where I have to search through the songs after I load the sequence to find the one I loaded it for (cuz I didn't bother to rename the songs).

To save yourself the confusion, name your songs before saving the sequence. For clarity, you name your songs while in Sequencer mode, and name the sequence when saving the sequence in Media mode.

this really surprises me.... I have just purchased a tr, but what's the point of having a sequencer IF YOU CAN'T SAVE ANYTHING EXCEPT WITH SOME ADDITIONAL MEDIA????

It's utterly irritating!!!!!

WHAT SPECIFIC KIND OF CARD SHOULD IT BE? I read at the korg page that the maximum it loads is 1gb. is that true?

also, could I save BOTH songs and samples IN THE SAME SD CARD (if I ever buy the mb ram modules to have the 64mb)?

The fact that an SD card is needed to save files and songs is not at all a problem.

Depending on the capacity, an SD card can be bought for $10-20.

Once the card is inserted just leave it in the TR and you never even notice.

Just be sure to save your work before turning off the machine.

but can I save both songs and samples in the same card or must it be a different 1 for each thing? how BIG would you say a standard song is? how much card space would it take?

Yes, both songs and samples can be saved on the same SD card. The card is nothing more than a storage unit.

I currently am using a 512MB card. I have about 35 SNG files, 20 MIDI files, a couple of jpg files(nothing to do with the TR), and a few samples. All of this has taken only 1.5MB.

The longest song I have is about 4 minutes and it used 40KB. The songs I have are not complicated - just keyboard playing with 1 or 2 tracks.

I imagine the more complicated the song, the more memory used.

well, considering its 64mb ram, then you can load up to 64mb of samples.
but obviously you could have different sets of samples depending on what song you're working on... or whatever.
Anyway, the TR should work with and SD card up to I think 2 or 4GB. it won't work with newer SDHC (Secure Digital - High Capacity) cards, which are usually 4GB and over.

Hi guys I just started to use the Korg TR and I finally found out
how to make beats with it. However, I can't save anything n don't know why... (I do have a SD Card)
As I press the MEDIA key it displays "no medium" and the device is really slow and even bugging.
It suxx
Any one a solution???

Make sure the SD card is in its slot when you power on the TR. If it still says no media, try another card. If that doesn't work, it's probably needs to be taken to the shop.
