Trying to record WAV. file, stops abruptly.

Post by beersoretus »

Hi, I'm a new user trying to record my first cd. For some reason, when I'm trying to record the song to a WAV. file, it just stops recording abruptly. Very frustrating, for I can't figure out why. The full song is there when I hit play and listen to it. And I'm able to record to CD the shortened WAV file. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this happens? Thanks!

How long is the song ? What technique are you using to bounce it to audio (resampling or bounce to disk) ? The resampling mechanism, IIRC, expects you to set a time length.

We need a few more clues about how you're working to shed any light on that one.

Thanks for your reply. Right now the song is only about 100 seconds, just part of a song, made up of just one combi program and a vocal track. I followed Stephen Kay's tutorial: From Combi to Sequencer to CD. So in SEQ mode I chose "Bounce all tracks to disk", named the file, and it is here during recording where it just stops. The meters are registering the levels and then about 12 - 15 seconds. It just stops recording. Your mention of the resampling mech IIRC expecting a set time length sounds like it could be the culprit. If you have a moment to tell me how to set that, I'd appreciate it. Thanks very much. It's an amazing machine but vast to comprehend.

With the Bounce All Tracks to Disk option you don't have to set the recording time as you would if you were using resampling, so this should be fire and forget. What else can you tell us about this song. Is it all MIDI tracks or is it a mix of audio and MIDI tracks ? More clues please :-)

This is very cool someone actually answers my plea! Thanks. The song as mentioned is just a combi program, Internal-C, #107, and I'm running my vocal through channel one. It's just a partial tune, no more than that. I may have done something funky in the recording process, but I don't think so because when the song plays it sounds fine beginning to end. When it stops abruptly, I do think it happens at the same place every time, 12-15 seconds in. Also, the song keeps playing so I hear it, but the meters quit registering that it is recording. Does this help?

Check out the following on the Sequencer 0-8 Audio Input/Sampling page:

Sampling Setup
1. Source Bus: L/R
2. Trigger: Sequencer START SW
3. Save to: DISK
4. Mode: Stereo
5. Sample Time: Default recording time is usually 04min 59.999sec. This may well be where your problem is - check that the sample time is greater than your song length time.

Hope this helps.

I write a lot of long songs. I had the experience of the WAV conversion stopping before the song was finished. Then I realized that I could simply crank up the sample time to, say, 10 minutes and the there would not be a problem of premature cutoff.
