Writing from editor to R3?

Hi
First I'd like to thank everyone here for the information I've been able to get from these forums...
My question is... now that I've got the R3 editor talking to the R3, I can receive all data from the R3... all the programs appear. The problem is, I can edit and create all I want... but I can only figure out how to save it to the PC... I can't figure out how to write to the R3. I want to overwrite the presets on the R3 hardware so I can have my custom sounds without being tied to the PC. I've turned write protect off (though I'm assuming that is a global setting, maybe that was for 1 program?) I can transmit a program to R3 (I see the name of the program change to correspond) however if I power off or even change banks it's back to the defaults...
I'm using Windows Vista (against my will) and using Korg Editor 1.01 (Vista Compatible)
I'm sure it's some little thing I'm overlooking ...

I have the Radias so it might be somewhat different but if you send only one program to the synth it goes into an editing buffer...you still have to write it to save it.
A simpler solution is to create full banks in the editor. Open up a new bank (all locations will be Init Program), drag and drop patches from your other banks into it, then send the whole bank to the synth. This will overwrite the current contents.

Thanks
I figured it out eventually... there was no button or menu option that said 'write'. I finally found it... you have to manually select whatever progs you want written to the R3 then right click on them and say 'write selected progs'.
I knew it had to be something simple that I was missing... thanks anyhow!

I think he was refering to the other method of:
-scroll/navigate to where you want to save it on the Radias/R3.
-select the program in the editor, this loads it into the 'edit' buffer on the R3/Radias, meaning that when you play, it will play this sound.
-hit 'write' on the R3/Radias (not in the editor). this will write whatever is in the edit buffer to the device's memory, usually in the location you selected in (1). alternatively you can skip (1) and select the write location (at least you can in the radias) in the write dialogue that comes up on the device.
this has an advantage over how you described because you can then choose where the programs are saved to.
the reason and way this works is because when you select, edit or play, the selected program is coppied into a tempory area of memory, much like when you launch a program on a computer. this is the way that many modern digital synths work.
when you twist the knobs, and play, it is accessing the tempory copy instead of the saved one. hitting 'write' overwrites the selected location with the contents of the edit/play buffer.
The 'compare' button swaps the edit buffer and the saved memory so that you don't loose your edit work.
so, when you select a program in the editor, it copies all of those parameters for the program to the Radias/R3's edit buffer. hitting write will then send that data to the selected memory location.
may sound a little complicated at first look, but is definately handy to understand

hi....
the easiest way to write back a preset is , as follows:
start the editor
turn on the r3
let the editor recieve all data from the r3
then select a patch on the r3 that can be overwitten
after that , select in the editor any patch , you like to play with ...
edit this patch in the editor
and if your happy with that sound , simply select the write button on rhe r3
thats all
ah yeah , don“t forget to let recieve the editor all data again from the r3 , if ya want to make a backup of your new presets otherwise , the new presets are lost
(i saw, that post was rather old - i think, perhaps it could help anyone anyway

I just got a new R3, and I'm happy with it but I just have a problem concerning transfert : when I want to transfert the entire library (the 127 presets) from the editor to the R3 but I got an error message. I can transfert the presets one by one but when I want to write all the data, I can't. Has anybody an Idea???
Thank you.

One patch at a time is transferring to the R3's RAM but doesn't actually write. If you turn the R3 off and on again you will lose that single patch. You need to turn off the write-protect function.
I have yet to try transferring a full bank, but that's why a one at a time patch transfer will work and full bank won't. I'll leave it to other experts to describe the correct actions to disable write-protect.
