Hey,
Just thought to start a thread for people wondering what instrument is in a song. Like this Hip Hop song. Its got a cool synthesizer in it and I am clueless to what it is. Maybe you could help?!

The instrument is through out the song and starts at about 1min. Its like a very metallic sound. Its really tight.
Thanks and Post any instruments your wondering about!

Sounds very like the SID chip from the C64.
You can buy VSTi's that emulate this chip. For example......

It could also be FM8 from NI. Either way it has that old Nintendo Game Boy sound to it.

I agree but it sounds quite processed as well, so the sound is kinda hidden behind the various effects.

Wouldn't it just be easier (and cheaper) for you just make me the instrument?

And then it be exactly it! Jeez I'm just brilliant!
Look forward to hearing it!

Any synth should be able to do that. The trick is not the sound, but the sequencing. The rapid arpeggiation/multiplexing reminiscent of the 8bit era.
Stack pulse oscillators, an octave or two apart, then rapidly arpeggiate them (much faster than you would normally). If you can use a one-shot step sequencer for your own custom note-triggering instead of an arp', that might be better.

Ok got another one!
Whats the background sound in this song? Its like some kind of SFX and Its just really tight. Any idea what it might be? or how i could re-create it?
There are two sounds i think that kinda go together. The first is at 50secs and the second echos it a little quieter.

Sounds like an actual sample of a person making a shouting noise, then the samples is played back at a much slower speed, and it's slightly pitch bent.
There's probably an effect applied to it also that gives it that low-fi sound.
