help recording!!!

Post by zfosterchild »

I know almost nothing about synthesizers, I have however been playing the piano for long time and decided to buy one. I'm trying to record the music I make but I don't know how. Right now I can either plug the R3 into my mac book pro trough a line in/line out cable or a usb to usb cable. However, when i play the r3, the sound that comes out on garageband is of the grand piano or one of garage bands presets. How can I record the music coming out of the synth exactly he way it is? Please help and thanks!

Ok here goes...

Open Garage Band
Click The Grand Piano Track
Track>Delete Track
Track>New Track
Check real instrument

Then select the instrument in this case the synth.

Because there is no synth.
At the bottom of the pop out menu which slide out on the right.
Click the little symbol selecter.
Select an icon.
Have the View / Hide Track Editor open.
Change the name.

:D

Hope this helps.
Good Luck

I have that happen to me too, i will have a look at it, but you can record on a standard macbook pro, just by plugging in, i have done it before.

Will have a look later tonight, i have to do my physics homework now, sigh.

a dedicated audio interface is usually the best bet. a firewire or a USB one. you will get better quality and stability too, typically.

the USB cable doesn't carry the R3/Radias' audio, only the MIDI information. which is simply messages saying 'note x on, note x off, clock, etc'.

if you don't want an audio interface, you can use adaptor cables and such to connect your R3's stereo jack out to your mac's stereo jack in and should be able to record through that.

i got it to work by using a line in line out cable, u just have to go to the macs system preferences and turn the mics off for input and turn monitoring on

but i already bought an maudio interfce lol
