Need help hooking up DSI Evolver to my Electribes?

I just got a DSI Evolver and chained it midi to my Electribes and set the Evolvers clock to EXT, put it on a different midi channel than the electribes and when I hit start on my master Electribe the sequencer doesnt start up. What am I doing wrong? Also can I have a keyboard hooked up to the Evolver while its still midi chained to the Electribes?
