Hi Guys,

My first Korg that i bought was an I30HD and what i found was that when i was creating styles i could add a signature change anywhere i wanted in a variation or fillin etc. On the pa1x this doesn't seem to be possible. On the pa1x you have to stick to the time signature you chose before you began to record any notes.

Why on earth would korg leave this feature out?
There are so many songs out there that have signature changes.

The reason why this is a problem for me is that i create styles based on a particular song, as some of you already know, and i try and replicate that song as close as possible. Now if a verse has a signature change in it from 4/4 to 2/4 i cant replicate that part of the song. Now you might think then "just do the whole verse in the variation as a 2/4 signature and your fine". Well that isn't a very good idea simply because if a verse manages to last more than 16 bars then im back to sqaure one cos that would mean more than 32 bars as 2/4 which means it wont fit in the variation.
Is there a way around this?

Bro we already argued on this many times on here, i already remember
2 big topics about this and no, time signature change is not possible on
any mashine that has already recorded material, no way, not phisically
possibly not even on I30, i had the mashine. What do you mean time change
on a song, i know there is but you gonna change in one element???
If a song changes time signature that means you need 2 different variations
and on 2 different var you can have different time signature.
I still dont understand, who and why in the world would someone need to
change time signature on an already recorded beat, am i nutz? Do i make sense?

Im afraid your mistaken about the I30.

I've been recording styles for years mate. on the I30 you can insert different time signatures anywhere you like. I did it all the time.
Looks like you didn't know your machine that well in the end!

For example The song "pretty woman" has a couple changes in the first verse. Instead of waisting 2 variations just for 1 verse i would stick a 2/4 signature in the middle of the variation.

Im recording "I wanna know what love is" at the moment on the pa1xpro and there is a signature change in the first verse of that as well but obviously on the pa1xpro you cant change so i've had to use up 2 variations.

Trust me I aint the "only one in the world to wanna do this you". You make out as if i'm crazy or something! Lol

Sal, I don't know if this is any help or not. I know you use Cubase SX. Cubase Sx allows time signature changes. Why not transferred into Cubase and make the change. Maybe I missed the point. If so, I stand corrected.

You record live or direct from the Pa1x don't you?

No offence bro but are you talking about Sequence or Style? On I30?

if you can change the time signature. do trick. thus. I variation in the 1. I time signature in variaricion .. 2. I do the other ... for example you can play in the bosanova stilo 1. and you can (here esta'el trick) 2 in the style you can play as long as you want but off clik the metronome so you can play the style of "pure ear" .. ¡¡ out metronome¡¡ only of "feeling or swing" is a little difficult but worth the job,, .. a greeting from mexico .. regards best.

FIRST MEASURE of the variation goes ONE TIME SIGNATURE
SECOND MEASURE of the variation goes ANOTHER TIME SIGNATURE...

I have several pieces of music which have some bars in 6/8 then some bars in 4/4 before reverting to 6/8 again. As you know 6/8 means you have two triplets per bar, which might be played at a tempo of 60 bpm. Then when you go into the 4/4 section, it is 4 straight beats per bar and these would be played at 120 bpm.

Some pieces of music require a 6/8 tune to be played above a 4/4 bass line, what we know as "threes against twos" or "nice cup of tea". The lead line beats fall on "nice cup tea, nice cup tea, nice cup tea" and the bass line beats fall on "nice of, nice of, nice of". Several Beethoven sonatas do this. They are scored as 4/4 with minim triplets inserted.

I think the idea of mixing 6/8 with 4/4 arises from this classical past. So, I can understand the requirement from Sal and others to have a mechanism for building styles that switch time signature between different variations. Unfortunately the present implemetation of styles on the Pa keyboards does not allow this.

Rob, i understand that and the Music i play and i come from is probably
the most complicated with weird numbers and songs with 3 different TIME
SIGNATURES, i understand that...we are talkin technologu here...he is
talking about having 2 different TIMES SIGNATURES in one variation.
Can you understand that? I cant. Having 2-3 diff variations with its own
different TIME SIGNATURES i understand and i use that for complicated
songs but 2 in 1? Only in USA, 2 for 1. LOL
