Strings on the Korg
I am loving my Korg Extreme and getting lots of out it now that I am getting more used to it. My only gripe is the string sounds and the choir type sounds. They are very tinny, not very good. I dont think they are very mellow. Does anyone else think this?? And I dont want to spend a fortune on getting 1 or 2 new samples sounds.

I have the same feeling about strings samples; it is hard to find something better articulated, more detailed and more natural sounding. However careful programming of them might bring interesting results.
The one thing however is to convert them from SF2 into KSC format, but that's the pleasure of Triton programming
Seriously, give me some time and I will make a conversion

nothing like that, there are free strings sounds around which really sound nice, just one example: http://kbh.neuf.fr/SF2_Files/Ultima_Str ... rings.html (weight: ~20MB)And I dont want to spend a fortune on getting 1 or 2 new samples sounds.

Try the following site for some samples for your triton. It is an oriental based site which offers oriental support for keyboardists. Moreover, you can even ask the forum mebers for some non oriental samples (ie:strings). I am certain they will provide you with plenty.... Here is the link....And I dont want to spend a fortune on getting 1 or 2 new samples sounds.

OK, here it is (KSC):
http://www.live-styler.de/kksound/TEX/K ... trings.zip
I also created a program based on this multisample; the amp env is velocity sensitive, so you get slightly faster response and release with higher velocities and slow response and release with low velocities:
http://www.live-styler.de/kksound/TEX/K ... trings.exl
after loading the SysEx dump, it should load into E127 program slot.
Check this short demo before downloading (maybe it is not what you need):

I've just bought some ram to max up my Extreme just so to make sure it would load these strings.
I put the .KSC file onto my memory card in the synth and told it to load.
It appears to have loaded it, it counted up all the .KSF files, and when it finished it just goes back to the media page. When you play the keyboard it doesn't sound like strings, in fact it sounds more like distorted bagpipes!
So I tried to load the .exl from the media card. It then goes to the:
Load and Transmit MIDI Exclusive Data menu.
I have a choice of MIDI or USB. When I select either of them it says "file Unavilable".
I've checked the E127 program slot and there aren't any strings there.
I know I'm doing something wrong but what?
Sorry for the long post.

I think the strings on the Extreme sound about as good as sampled/synth strings can. Several of the patches on the TE sound great to my ears. Are you running in stereo? If not, that makes a huge difference.
Also, the way they're played makes a big difference. Go to the Berklee Shares web site and download their freebie on Authentic Sequencing. It has some great tips for playing string parts (and emulating other instruments) well.
