August - DrWho - Later is Now

Post by DrWho »

Here is my August tune. It is also available on my SoundClick page.

This is M3 and me slapping da bass again. I had a lot of fun making this tune, and fortunately I had a lot of time to work on it so it is complete. And, I actually am not sick of it yet!

I spent a lot of time on the mixing phase - so would really appreciate any comment on the sound quality.

Enjoy!

When the drums fade in I get a vibe from Irobot as it's so loose yet rhythmical. The bass is very cool, nice funky lick there. You have a great pallette of sounds, good balance, synthelicious. I like these chords too, I think they're maj sevenths? I could imagine a woman's voice over this, like from Return to Forever. Very nice, I am liking this. Really good synth work.

I'm always looking forward to your tunes Art.

In terms of sounds it is indeed synthelicious, as George put it. I especially enjoyed that arpeggio line at the very begnining. Was it karma-fied?

The bass is cool although at the beginning it does not quite have the presence. I need to check that on another sysem though, as my monitors lie to me about low frequencies.

Somewhere in the middle I would like to hear a nice drum groove to flow with.

Still its a very tasty piece of music.

Cool and neeet!!!!!!

Wish I could do it....

The overall feel is very pleasant and happy, but there is a strong feel of pathos at times, to me..., like there is a feel of anticipation and even a slight feel of loss....it's the mode feel that brings that I believe

(boy I have gone crazy this time, in trying to say what I hear.....) But anyway....it has a real nice overall line and harmonic content....

It will take a few listenings for me to understand it well...

Hi sewa - Yes - loads of Karma here - most of the drums and all the arpies, as well as the first solo voice. The solo voice in the middle is straight. And yes, I mixed it down to keep it under 0 db which sucked the life out of it - I will re-mix and post later this week. As for a drum groove - oh man - do you know how long it took me to get the drums as they are?

Hi ellll - Man I have no idea what you mean about the pathos thing .... please try again :-)

Very nice with hints of Tangerine Dream... nice bass playing man!

I like the leads and the changing feel of the song through sound. The abrupt ending is a bit much. As much as I had fade outs, it might have worked here.

But it is a great tune. Keep em coming!

Hi ellll - happy and sad eh - interesting !

Jon - glad someone liked the bass playing ;-) I am on the fence about the ending. I've gone back and forth on whether to add more and fade or add more and stop or just stop.

Thanxs,

Hi Dr Who

Very nice groovy sound here - I also love it when the bass plays the melody.

For the ending how about repeating the melody without drum track, then once more with drum track back, and then end with a slowing down (instead of a fade) and finish on a completely different chord?

Hi Dee,

Okay - so you also didn't like the abrupt ending. I am still on the fence about it. Yes - your suggestion is a good one to extend and end at the same time.

I dunno - it is done so .... maybe it is done ....

Thanxs for your comments!

Sorry Art, I was sure I had listened to this.
DOH!!!

Very Karma sounding, with a slick bass.

I got a hint of Jazzmasters sound here, a very good thing.
Nice.

Wow, I cannot explain myself how I could have missed this tune!
Very smooth sounding!
I agree with Stephen, that's Karma, brillant usage of Karma technology!

I like the pad sound, so airy!
I think you've choosen the right amount of bars with that sound, because all that "appear-disappear" of the sound should become boring after a few.

Very good work!

That sounds really fresh, I've just been listening to mine again, work to do.
Happy and uplifting, what a great feel and groove, funky electronica!
Loving that bass too, nice to hear it in there with all the electronic sounds.
Speaking of sounds, you've used so many of the sounds that I like, lots of 80's analogue stuff :)

Hi Stephen, Diego and Chordial,

Thanxs or listening and your comments. Jazzmasters - now I wish my sound was as clean and clear as Paul's (Hardcastle).

I guess I used a lot of 80's sounds - I dunno - maybe I missed some of the 80's music - do you mean there was more than a flock of seagulls ;-)

Cheers,
