Original Electribes' inability to save mutes in patterns...

You cannot save mute settings in patterns in the original Electribes. I think this omission severely limits the original Electribes compared to the EMX/ESX series and it seems like a major show-stopper for live performance use. With EMX/ESX, when you load a pattern with saved mutes, you can start the pattern with various parts muted and gradually unmute to build a performance that grows into the full pattern with all parts unmuted, which seems ideal to me.

Is it even worth considering the original Electribes (since they're fairly inexpensive now) for playing out live given this serious oversight? Should I just save up for EMX/ESX?

Has anyone figured out any tricks or workarounds to deal with this? The only thing I can think of is making several patterns that would represent different mute settings of a single pattern but this would quickly add up the number of patterns used for each song.

I made one pattern for each setting, but it takes up some memory space for sure. I was at around 20-30 patterns per song with my EA and ER, and that worked well for a while. I much prefer the ESX/EMX tho, but for the orice of second hand 1st generation electribes, I say they are well worht the money, as they sound a bit differnent, and offer other ways of making sound than the EMX/ESX

definitely the ER-1
the EA-1 I never cared for, although the two synth lines was a pretty kewl feature, Korg definitely kicked ass when they came out with them.
I love the Er-1 cuz it's like instant electro machine, the little synth engine inside is awesome.

I think you can save the pattern with the part volume/level turned all the way down. Then turn/fade it up when required.

I've also noticed on ER-1 soloed parts get unsoloed when pressing stop and play ... not so on EMX/ESX ...

That said, the ER-1 is still a great little VA drum machine ... Perfect to jam to ...

I just wish the EMX had more synth parts because if you program drums on the synth parts your probably going to use all five ... unless, of course, you have an ER-1 around ...

the electribe X's are much better than the original ones. I have a es-1 and i compared it to a ESX and the diference is huge
The only thing i dont like about the ESX is that it doesnt have the same delay that the ES1 has (actually, it sucks) and thats a big deal for my beats.

I guess the workaround is to save patterns in a SONG ... you can record mutes and solos there, apparently, I was reading in the manual last night ...

I've actually never used SONG mode yet ...

heh, I've just recently started NOT using song mode.. :) but when I had 3 tribes running + a microkorg to play, changing and keeping track of 3 tribes at once was too much for me, so song mode was really a good feature for more structured songs :)

Actually, I just got a Korg EM1.
It doesn't have the features of the EMX and only 2 synth parts but it sounds great.
If you can find a good used one on ebay, go for it.
Also there's a cool piece of software for it, the EM-1 Editor.

Theirs definetly workarounds

I do apologise for dragging up an ancient post!

I'm having trouble.

I'm programming in a song in song mode and there appears to be prerecorded solos and mutes that are messing things up for me.

Does anyone know how to delete things solos/mutes?

Thanks!
