Fast reset feature

Since I've had several freezes with my PA800, I wondered if it can be worked out in a simple way. I mean that toggling the power on and off causes the full (hard) reset with OS and resource reload from scratch, which takes too much time.
So I wonder if a "soft" reset is possible. For example, if there are any internal processes that just stopped working, maybe the OS can restart them and reset the parameters to defaults without reloading the whole musical resources.
So my question is, would you like a "soft" or "fast" reset feature in the future version of PA operating system?

My Pa800 never freezes! Instead of a fast reset it would be better to solve the problem that causes the freezes for some users.

Kind regards,
Tommy

As TommyF said- "My Pa800 never freezes! Instead of a fast reset it would be better to solve the problem that causes the freezes" for your KB.
What OS do you have?
With the 1.6 I did not hear any freezes....[from other members...], [And for me-with the 1.1-1.5 there were not freezes too...].

Have you see the "STICKY" Post subject: How to guide: Restoring a Pa800 to known working state ?

I have OS 1.60. I can tell the exact steps to reproduce this specific freeze bug.
Pick any style. Start playing. Go to Performance selection screen (while playing), open the "Drawbar organ" page. Pick any drawbar organ performance.
Play a few notes with the drawbar organ performance.
Then try to change the performance to whichever you like.
Oops - the performance name flashes, but you still got the Drawbar organ! No change.
This is not the freezing yet. The freezing occurs when I try to change style or just open Menu after this flashing.
The KB freezes showing me the "Please wait..." message, until I manually reset it by switching the power on/off.

This means that I cannot manually select any drawbar organ performance without the 100% freezing after that.

But noone seems to have encountered it but me. Unfortunately.
I shall hope this bug will go in the next OS version.

Hi LightGreen,

I just tried your exact procedure, but I could't reproduce any of the symptoms you describe.

However, I remember that, in the few days after I purchased my Pa800, I got a freezing like that, with flashing Performance or Style names, then an endless "Please wait...", but I think it happened when coming back from SongBook (not sure...). Restarting the instrument was not enough: I had to erase the memory then reload the OS. This problem never recurred.

hi iaoranaemaeva,

Thanks for describing your case!

This is exactly why I created this poll. I mean that there seem to be several elusive bugs which are hard to reproduce on every single keyboard.
I just wanted to state my opinion that Korg have to think about some generic cure for all such situations. Like having a "fast" reset feature or something. Because it is not good for a keyboard player to restart the whole OS, or even reformat the drive in case of a single freeze.
But if the OS 2.0 will be totally bug-free or will load in 2 seconds, that would not be a problem at all. Let's hope it will include enough bug fixes, not only new features.

Well, it happened a few minutes ago to my wife, while she was switching between User or Favorite styles, probably from or to a style imported from her Pa50 but itself formerly imported from another brand, AFAIK!!!

And the bug persists after restarting the instrument. I'll have to erase the memory and reload OS 1.6 again :(

I had exactly the same problem when I acquired my Pa800 nearly two years ago. I had expected Korg to have solved it by now, but appearently not. However I found a workaround that I have used since then - and this might be the reason that I never see a single freeze anymore.

The problem is basically that everytime you select a style in Pa80 or i3 format it has to be converted before it can play on the Pa800/Pa2X. That is why the "Please Wait" dialog is shown whenever you select a style in these older formats. However this conversion sometimes freezes if the keyboard is busy doing other things, by example if it is already playing another style.

The solution is to do this conversion once and for all: When I load a new set or a style file I select every single style and do a "Write Current Style Perf." from the menu in the top right corner". This will convert and save the style into Pa800/Pa2X format. After I began to use this procedure I have not seen a single freeze and I never see the annoying "Please Wait" dialog.

Kind regards,
Tommy
