Fix your knob jitters or worn out buttons or even scratches?

Post by Ruso »

Got knob jitters? Knob jitters is the most common problem with these units. It is caused by potentiometers (knobs) which are used a lot or improperly used and it causes your unit to jump values either on random or while turning knob(s). Same goes for the silicone buttons.

Want to fix it yourself?

If you can solder and want to fix it yourself, I'm putting up my fried electribe EMX up on ebay with a starting price of only 50 bucks... that will include a power supply and a couple tubes which is a good deal on its own. Also the unit is pretty clean of scratches and wear so if you got a scratched up unit here's your chance to clean it up....

mobo is a bout 185 and there's another part that needs replacement.... the total for parts is like 250 + labor = used machine.

The I/O board (the input board with all the knobs and buttons) has two small components that have burn marks around them. They could probably be replaced but there is no guarantee that this will fix that board and other parts are not damaged.

The mother board has a blown fuse which was bypassed(for circuit bending purposes) and due to a horrific accident at a later time there was too much power given to the machine which caused the main DSP to fry. Also a small part near the DSP (I forget what it was) completely toasted and my brother swapped it... We thought it was the only problem but after powering up the machine and having the lights come on but the machine did not start. After probing around we noticed the dsp is VERY hot, after taking it to a repair shop and dropping 80 bucks they discovered some minor damage to the input board like I explained above.

These parts can be ordered from korg directly to save some cash but all in all, after the fix there would still have to be more work done because from what the service manual says, you gotta calibrate the motherboard and run all sorts of tests on it, not to mention an OS update which I guess could be skipped provided that the thing comes with it preinstalled.

i know this is an old thread, but do you have a website/email address to contact korg to order parts? i have an esx with knob drift/jitter problems, and obviously rather than hunt down a parts unit it makes sense to me to just order some new pots.

thanks

I also think that I might be experiencing this knob jitter, when editing samples on the esx-1 it is a little difficult to turn the knobs fast and accurately they seem to jump around and then i have to turn slowly and it works much better.
I purchased my esx used but there is still a year and a half warranty left I think from guitar center, so would I be able to just exchange it for a new one or are you guys taking it to some type of service center for cases like this?

no you'd have to take it in to a certified korg service center.... look on korg's website they have a list. They should do it for free since you're on warranty.
