Anyone know how I can get my Kaossilator to play in the background while I use my microKORG? It's currently plugged into the Audio In 2 port. I set it on the AUD setting on my microKORG, but it only kinda plays sound when I press a note.
Is there a way I can have a drum loop playing on my Kaossilator in the background while I play music on the microKORG? Hope that makes sense.
yeah, that's no problem. on your microKORG, using the Edit Select 2 knob, switch over to Global. now, using knob 5/Tempo, change the setting from "oFF" to "on". this changes Audio In to Thru, so that you'll hear the audio input all the time, without holding keys. since you'll likely want to save this setting (so you don't have to do this procedure every time you turn on your mK), hit the Write button twice.
im also experimenting with the koassilator/microkorg combo.....but i was wondering if its possible to run the kaossilator through the microkorg and use effects.....filters...delays ect....
if you want to run the kaosilator through the MK and use its filters & effects, then you have to set osc 1 to audio in.
then you should set it to mono (or poly if you want key related bandpass filters), set the arp mode to trigger, and the gate time to 100%, then you can set the envelopes not to retrigger.
now if you press a note or chord with the arp on, it will continue to sound so that the audio from the input still gets through the output. This is because the key gate and envelope still operate when osc1 is audio in, so otherwise you would only hear the sound when you are playing the keyboard. of course you may want it this way..
if you want it in stereo, you have to use two timbres, set one to audio in 1, the other to audio in 2, and then pan them left and right. then you can use different filter settings for left right etc. you can also use the distortion and the sound will go through the effects section too. basically you're replacing osc 1 with the audio input signal.
some fun things to try are keytracking high-res bandpass filters in poly mode, using the ringmod from osc2, and the distortion.
of course, for the original question, using audio in thru is okay, but really you should be using a mixer rather than running your other gear through the MK.
