The G Bank - what is it?

Hi,
This might seem like a silly question, but it really bothers me.
When I browse the sounds on the M3, anywhere i look i see those G bank sounds. They look like this: g(1)blablasound or g(7)hangdrum.
What are these?
It seems that there are countless copies of them everywhere! Is there a way to delete them, because they are useless for me and they seem to be copies of the usual "standard" patches. Moreover, they make a huge mess in my M3.
Am I missing something? :?

These are the general midi standard drum sounds. You can delete them if you never want ti play back general midi drums or a GM MIDI song.

Rob

G bank is a bank where are stored sounds according to MIDI GM/GM2 standard and sundbanks.

if you create in M3 a midi file using only sounds from G bank you will be sure that any midi player will reproduced it correctly (e.g. drum track will be played as a drum track, piano track as a piano track etc etc). instead if you use any other sounds, when playing the midi file in a midi player all sound will be messed up.

even if you do not use G banks you cannot delete or overwrite these programs

I agree, it's annoying to be stuck with all of them. Same way since the Tritons and possibly before that.

I always browse the M3 patches by category. If you do that, at the end of a certain category you get a list of those g's:
g(1) Acoustic Piano
g(2) Acoustic Piano
g(3) Acoustic Piano
.
.
.
g(9) Acoustic Piano
It's a bit misleading for me :? makes you think you've got so many more patches to browse through and then surprise, surprise... the G's show up :D

Anyway, General Midi explains it all. I don't use that standard so I wish I could delete all of them. Guess I'm stuck with them. This got me thinking: Can you choose the banks you want to browse, or the ones you'd rather not see while browsing? This would be a nice addition to this deep instrument. I'm digging through the parameter guide and the M3 is a deep deep beast.

Thank's for your help!
