Why we wait for good things to come....

As the title suggests, anything goes in this section.

Why we wait for good things to come....

Post by John Hendry »

This post shows why Korg is not impressed to offer Poly AT. No one will buy something if they don't understand it. Please learn what Poly AT is so you know what to complain about if you must. If you use Poly AT for just an hour you will cry when it is takin away from you and replaced with Ch AT. Korg will not "C'mon" till we "turn on" our awareness to be worthy of such improvements.

Someone said by mistake:

“But how can you talk about improvements to the m50 and not put a velocity sensitive keyboard at the top of the list? What board doesn't have this? Why even put piano patches on it if your notes are all the same volume? I almost plunked down the bucks when it first came out because it had so many great features, then said whoa. Glad I didn't.

For whatever it would have cost them to add this feature, it would have been worth it many times over. I can live without sampling, I can live with the cheap plastic case, I can live with every other shortcoming except this one.

C'mon Korg.”

C'mon people, not Korg. Korg is way ahead of the game seeing how smart we are/not. Not having velocity sense could be a real reality if we don't wake up as this is the trend’s direction supported by Yamaha and Roland who used to make Poly AT controllers knowing its importance and have eliminated AT altogether. Lucky to get a power cord IMO.

Errr! John^^

Can't say I agree.
KORG have different products for different markets that's all.

The M50 is a budget priced keyboard, and for all it offers it's pretty fantastic value.

Regards
Sharp.

I have to agree here, to some extent.
I can see why they took this feature off when making the M50. and to be honest a lot of people don't use it. so the M50 is definately aimed more at people who don't use aftertouch. I only discovered aftertouch because my TR has it...

However, I am astounded that high end keyboards for example OASYS and maybe if we ever see something like M3Extreme (lol), that these don't have POLY AT.
I had a lecture at uni on MIDI the other day and frankly was offended when the lecturer said "then this message is used for aftertouch, and there is a whole message type devoted to poly aftertouch. Its a bit pointless really because its not very useful and they could have used the message for something else".

I can understand anyone who's never played synths wouldn't really appreciate the facility to use aftertouch...

There are two issues here:
Manufacturers going BACKWARDS not just on hardware and innovation, but not even using the MIDI standard to its full potential (and they're talking about replacing it? no-one even uses note off velocity, something that would be incredibly easy to implement purely in firmware using existing key contacts). if you don't push the boundaries then no-one is going to want it.
But it would be a great feature to have, especially as we are seeing expression and real time controls becoming more important with every generation of workstation (M3's control surface vs triton series 4/5 knobs, vs M1's almost non existent controls)

The second is user appreciation of even AT, let alone poly'. there is a general lack of awareness.....

I did not say bad things about M50!

Post by John Hendry »

I was NOT referring to the M50, or Korg, I was referring to some people not knowing what Poly AT is. I approve of the M50 being made light and having keys good for testing sounds.....so no AT on M50 no big deal for me as I didn't need another set of 61 keys even if the best with AT.....add Poly AT and its a different story...I'd by any keyboard that offered it to use as controller. I have been using my Elka MK 76 with Poly AT and 4 sticking keys but its Poly after touch allows expression and programming not possible with CH AT and if people could try it to see the difference THEN they would understand.

Korg must be smart and design products that reflects our intelligence. In regards to Poly AT all the manufactures have gone backwards because WE allowed it and this is because even sales persons don't know what Poly AT is!

IMO Korg got the M50 just right priced at a module price and this lets it sit above my Fatar and be easy to use without bending over my module rack. The M50 is an amazing keyboard marketed for those that don't need another set of keys and sampler as well as those on a budget.

The thought of losing velocity control got my attention that's all.

BTW…{a} is weak force asymmetry sign now being used in mathematics. It replaces = in equations that reference weak and strong force interactions. Example: O=E=W(wp=sxt){a}T(wp=s/t) It takes getting used to. If written like this: O=E=W(wp=sxt)=T{a}(t=s/t) it shows separation from weak force not connection to the strong force. Although weak force creates asymmetry, it happens in T. I figure it will take CERN’s best mathematicians less than 2 years to add EM & GAV’s variance time signature to {a} to show what the particle becomes after they find Mr. Higgs and realize his weight is the missing unit of measurement in Relativity. Missing Dark Matter and Energy count is now past 99% so I am certain they are only measuring asymmetry values, the difference added between two otherwise identical mirrors or the still non-moving mass “membranes” in M Theory. They are getting close thanks to Professor Lisa Randle who suggested a moment arm difference of EM>and<GAV in the membranes on the Science Channel. She sees a lot but Ohm’s law has her stumped without its mass source and I will be taking off soon to bang heads with these people. Understanding the asymmetry has opened up a new world for me…more confused than ever now;-)
