Hi!

Have anyone here used a MIDI pedal of some sort to trigger the pads on
the M3? I want to be able to use my feet to control the pads but I'm not
sure what type/brand/model MIDI pedal would work the way I need it to
work.

What I would like to do is use my feet to play chords assigned to the pads
just as if my hands are playing the pads. That means I would have to
keep my feet pressed down to keep the sound on, unless it has some sort
of "latch" feature? If there is a latch feature, do I turn off the sound by
pressing the same note again? I was thinking of using a bass MIDI pedal
to do this (Roland PK-5A?). Using a bass MIDI pedal may allow me to
trigger the pads using different velocity just if my hands were playing the
pads itself.

How about MIDI pedals such as the Yamaha MFC10 or the Behringer
FBC1010? Could it be used for this purpose? How would it trigger the
pads? Would I have to press the button twice to turn it on/off (latch)
before triggering a different pad? Or would the first pad turn off the
moment I press a different button on the pedal?

In practical sense, I want to be able to have as much control but with
minimize foot action .

I don't want to have to buy several pedal before finding one that works so
if anyone has any experience or suggestions please feel free to chip in.

Hi m3newbie,

As you know the Pads on the M3 are velocity/touch sensitive. I don't know of many foot pedals that provide touch sensitive controllers. Even though I have a Behringer FCB1010 with 10 switches, I don't bother assigning them to operate Pads because they have no velocity sensitivity. However if all you want is ON/OFF and Hold at a fixed volume then a Behringer FCB1010 will do it.

For Pad control, a Midi organ footpedal (lower manual) board might be velocity sensitive, but probably expensive.

Stephen Kay's Karma PC Editor provides remote control of the Pads using Midi controller values. I think I spotted from Stephen's instructions how the controller values are assigned on the M3 and the Karma PC Editor, it seems that you can give the Pads and other controllers like sliders any Midi CC values you want. The instructions for setting the controllers up are in Stephen's instructions called "Mirroring the M3 and Karma Editor control surfaces". Take a look at the Roland PK-5A, it seems this will do what you want, the pedalboard is velocity sensitive ...

I highly recommend the Roland PK-5 for what you want to do. I have been using them for years and they are extremely versitile!
I run 2 different synths with them while I play bass. You can set it up to run 2 different midi channels at a time using the Bass/Poly buttons.
