Master Volume Control Issue

Hi All,

I have just got a second-hand Micro X (for free) and I've got an issue with the Master Volume control knob. It doesn't seem to work. There is volume coming out of the master outputs but its not controlled at all by the volume knob. This is true for the headphone jack as well.

2 things come to mind.

1.) The Korg was sent to me via courier and I live on an escarpment meaning the Korg had to a serious altitude change. So much so that it took an age for the screen to actually be usable. This seems to be fine now, but could this effect the circuitry using the volume control? or is it just bust?

2.) That there is a setting somewhere that disengages the volume control knob? this is grasping at straws but I do know that you can do this on some synths.

I'm hoping that its one of the above. I'm gonna open it tonite and get a voltmeter on the control to see if its working at all....maybe I need some contact spray or something ???

thanks

I believe the volume knob is 100% hardware and cannot be disabled by software, so it must be broken AFAIK.

Okies so I took the MicroX apart and found out 3 things...

1.) There are a helluva lot of screws...

2.) The master volume knob is definately bust...check it with a voltmeter and it does nothing besides hang at half voltage....which is weird in itself but anyways...guess that needs to be replaced.

3.) The pitch wheel wasn't reacting due to a loose wire internally...fixed that at least.

Well you can't really complain if you got it for free, can you :)

While I replaced the pot I decided to replace the knobs as well...the Micro's are cheap and nasty so I spend a whole $3 and bought some nice Moog lookalikes :P strangely the pots feel a lot more solid now as well...

Now to replace the nasty plastic ends with some nice wood ones :)

Ooh, cool mod. If I weren't afraid to take my beloved synth apart (I always have screws left over after putting things back together) I would do that too. But I guess I can always do it when one of the factory pots breaks.
