Exciting new products for the Triton Classic

Hello all you Triton owners - JD from SCSIforSamplers.com here. I wanted to let everyone know about a few new exciting products we have developed for the Korg Triton Classic: a hybrid 4GB storage unit called the NDISK, a kit to allow internal SCSI drives to be installed in the Triton Classic and a new inexpensive CF card reader/writer drive that works well with the Triton.

First, the NDISK is a 3.5" storage unit that contains a 2.5" notebook hard drive on a custom SCSI-IDE Bridge card. This gives you all the benefits of solid-state storage, such as no noise or heat during operation but none of the slow operating speed usually found with flash technology - the NDISK is about as fast as a conventional 3.5" SCSI hard drive. It has a 9GB storage capacity but of course, this will be capped at 4GB by the Triton. Even so, 4GB of fast internal (or external - it is also available in an external case) storage will be most welcome for Triton Classic owners. The NDISK only draws 5 volts of power, so it can share power with the floppy drive when installed internally.

Our internal cable kit allows you to add an internal SCSI drive (such as a zip drive or a card reader drive or an internal NDISK storage unit) to your Triton Classic. It requires no permanent modifications to your sampler but instead reroutes the internal SCSI interface so that both an external SCSI port and a ribbon cable over to an internal drive is possible. It is easy to install and will allow you to finally ditch that floppy drive!

Last, we have the CF-CARD, which is a one slot CF card reader/writer that mounts in the floppy drive location and will give you the ability to use CF cards up to 4GB in capacity as your primary storage device. This inexpensive card reader has one drawback - it is not hotswappable, meaning you must power down your Triton before changing CF cards, but this is not a huge restriction and most users have no trouble adjusting to it.

Let me remind everyone that these are all SCSI products and so they will require that your Triton have the SCSI interface installed. But I have been seeing a lot of those on eBay lately and at close to the original price. Apparently, some guy overseas has found a bunch of these cards and is selling them on eBay all the time. He seems legit, at least his feedback is good. If you don't yet have the SCSI interface in your Triton, I'd grab one before they run out.

You can see all these new products on our website and be sure to contact me if I can answer any questions about these cool new products. Get the most out of your Triton Classic and let SCSIforSamplers.com help you do it!

As a Triton owner who still uses the Triton as my Primary board, let me be the first to say "Thank You" for keeping it alive. Since the only reason to have the floppy drive at all is for OS updates (which there will be no more of), it is time to replace the drive with something more useful.

Quick question, when installing the CF-CARD in my Triton Classic, will it allow me to keep my external port or will this take that over? It's been so long since I've been inside my Triton and don't remember what the possibilities are...

Thanks again,

-Mc

SD Unreliable

It has been our experience that SD is not reliable when used with samplers and card reader drives. A lot of that may depend upon brand, as some folks have reported success with SD and others have had major problems.

It's probably worth trying again with the new CF-CARD drive. I'll get back to you on that...
