Padkontrol and Midi Keyboard

Post by pkman »

Just got the padkontrol and i dont have a midi cable so i figured here would be the best place to ask before i go out and buy a midi cable.

What happens when i plug my keyboard into the back of my padkontrol?
Will it cut down my latency in fl8 any?
Can i use the x-y pad with my generic midi keyboard?
Can i plug the padkontrol into a firewire port?

you can't plug it into firewire because it is a USB socket on the back - completely different interface, hardware, protocols, etc.

plugging it into the back of your keyboard, you will be able to trigger notes using the pads, and use the knobs and x-y pad to send CC messages to control the keyboard.
if you have the USB in as well it will act as a USB-MIDI interface, allowing you to control the keyboard (assuming its a synthesizer) from software, as well as use the keyboard as an input to your software for example for entering notes into the sequencer, or for playing VSTi and other plugins live and in the studio.
you will be able to use the X/Y pad and other controls in the software and plugins too.
