Is it possible to connect a midi pedal to the kp3 to allow recording to start, and if so what would need to be set up?

Also, is it possible to use a midi cable to another device, and use the Kp3 to set the time for the other device?

Thanks,
Mike

you can trigger the sample pads with note on/off messages.
you would need to have them set up to record, but you could start the recording time with outboard gear...

Okay,

Would it be possible to record/playback samples using a footcontroller?

Sorry for so many questions

okay....
well if you hook it up to your R3 via midi, you should be able to turn on/off samples by pressing the c1 or c2 key on the keyboard (don't remember which). this will give you an idea of how it works....

Okay thats great thanks,

Just managed to find a midi cable, found that I can do that, which is great!
However when i change effect on the R3, the KP3 changes effects?

you can use the midi filter (shift +7; i think...) to make the kp3 not respond to program change messages... otherwise when you change the R3, it sends out a change program message just like it would if you changed any other parameter. the kp3 is designed to see that and change to that program, which is actually awesome, because you can change functions from afar.

Ah I see, thats pretty handy

Although I've found that using C1 to start/stop effects only works on certain effects on the R3?

And also using C1 makes a sound too, may have to split the keyboard so those 4 keys are quiet

probably what's happening there is the R3 is re-scaling it's keyboard with a new patch, thus moving the C1 key elsewhere. i don't know anything about the R3, but that's the most likely answer. sadly i don't have a fix for that, sorry.

Okay no problem.

Looking in the manual for MIDI controls it doesn't state anything about being able to record using an external device

However you can still start/stop the 4 patches and do other things such as control the x and y axis of the pad

If I were to buy a midi foot controller with 6 or 8 switches, would i be able to program certain pedals to do hit certain positions on the XY pad?

you can't press the sample/resample button via midi that has to be set up manually.

"If I were to buy a midi foot controller with 6 or 8 switches, would i be able to program certain pedals to do hit certain positions on the XY pad?"

is it possible? yes.
you may have some trouble with the implementation though... and i would need to know more about the foot controller to be sure.
