I hoping you may be help me with this quick query, I just bought a Radias from ebay.
I starting at the beginning and this my first synth, I’m slowly working though the operators manual and trying to get to grips with all these new terms, Timbres etc.
The first thing I’ve noticed is that the Pre-set sounds on my Radias appear to be different to whats displayed in the manual.
On my radias
A01 is a sound called Night Fly
A02 = Talkn Move
A03 = Buzzy Bee
A04 = Ostinati
Would I be correct to presume that these are the previous users programmed sounds, and if I return the radias back to the factory settings.
A01 will revert back to being Harness Power
A02 Warping Beat
Etc

Hi Rob, yes you're correct. If I were you, I'd make a slightly cheeky copy of the former owner's patches for yourself, as they might be quite unique and/or usable, before wiping over them with the factory defaults. Otherwise once they're gone, they're gone. Would be a shame to waste them, they might be good.

Am i correct by saying to save the patches, I connect the radias via usb to by computer and dump the patches.

I agree........
The factory preset returns the synth to the Salesmans version of the synth....
You will hear wonderfull presets and Sequences that bedazzle all......
If some of the factory settings are actually of use to a song you are working on...power points.......For a new synth programmer like you stated, you might want to explore what the last user did for usability.....
I changed over half of the presets within the first week, because they were too influential for me to write with.....I like being inspired by a sound,(not having the preset write the song for me...) lol...
The Presets in "P" are a default bank that you can create from the ground up.......Sometimes baby steps isn't a bad thing for a new user.... there is alot on this synth that will take some learning.....
Enjoy your Journey.... and dont run with Comb Filters or Scissors ...

Currently running, Hammond M3, Yamaha CS80 + MM6, Roland JX-3P + Mkb 1000 + Vk7 + D110, Alesis Quadrasynth plus, Haken Continuum fingerboard, Korg Radias + Lambda, Ensoniq SQ80, Waldorf Blofeld, Creamware Prodyssey + B4000, Use Audio Plugiator, Arp Axxe ....and some soft synths.
Thanks for the info guys, it is really appreciated.
I've got to admit some on the previous owners pre-sets are a little to trancey and a bit ravey for me. However what they have done is shown the potential of the synth and what it is capable of, and hopefully once I've started learning to mould sounds correctly, I could edit some of them further to sound more to my taste. Therefore I don't want to delete them totally.
But because I'm starting at the beginning I think it might be better to start with the factory settings and work from there.
One last question.... Honest
I haven't come to it yet in the manual, once I've dumped the previous sounds onto my computer, is it easy to reload them?
Will the computer/radias try and reload all the sounds in one go, or can you load them individually?
you can select any radias patch from your computer and listen to it on your radias before transfering them.......
select a slot you want to overwrite first on your Radias.....then browse the sounds on the computer......they will auto load into a buffer on the Radias....
when you find one you are happy with.......Save it to the Radias slot..... you can also do entire banks....

When bought the radias, it never came with any discs, Will I need a program to read the dumped patches.
The reason I ask, is that i've connected the radias to my Mac via usb and tried to dump all the data. The process has taking around 20 mins.
The radias say's the data dump is complete, however I can't find any files on my Mac.
Again sorry for being a little thick, and your advise is most appreciated.
Yes, you need proprietary Korg software to do it. Seeing as you weren't given it and don't know about it, you're going to love this side of things! (It's free, of course, seeing as you can't use the software without a Radias).
Click "Downloads", then scroll down to "Radias Sound Editing Software". Download and install it. A whole new world to editing your Radias awaits.
Of course there's also the latest Radias Operating System (v2.0) available if you don't have it installed, which enables new functionality on the Radias itself, and there's also a new bank of presets from the same webpage, too.
To use the Radias via USB-MIDI for sequencing in your songs (instead of using the standard 5-pin DIN MIDI jacks) you can also download the USB-MIDI driver from the same webpage.

when you install the software, you won't need to dump from the radias.
Instead, open a new file using File > New, and you should be able to tell it to 'recieve all'.
Save that file. that is all it takes to do a complete backup
you can also download other people's programs for example here at Korg Forums http://www.korgforums.com/?show=1.
I find the best way to load a single sound is to load the file (but not write/send all, as that will overwrite everything with the contents of the file), select the spot you want to load a sound to, then go through the sounds on the editor. Each time you select a sound it will be loaded into the edit/play buffer so you can audition it straight away.
When you finally want to save it to the Radias, use the normal writing procedure on the radias (hit write, Yes, etc). otherwise writing from the software will write to the program location indicated in the software and not the location you have selected on the Radias module.

The v2.0 does sound like some of the pre-set sounds, so guess it must be them.
I've dumped them to my computer and reverted back to the factory settings, which to be honest sound more moldable for me.
