Programming the arpeggiator

I'd like to get my head around the arpeggiator and was looking into be able to program specifics and wasn't even sure if what i want to do can be done.
I'll base this on an example in order to help get to my point quick enough.
I understand that i have the 8 step sequencer in which the notes will play dependent on which of the 8 buttons are selected. So if i hit a C and and have Arp. buttons 1,3,5,7 selected i understand that it will play a C note on each of the buttons i have selected. I know that if i then i hit a C and E note at the same time and then have all 8 Apr. buttons selected it will play a C note on the 1,3,5,7 buttons and an E note on the 2,4,6,8 Arp. buttons.
If i wanted to play a C note on 'Apr. button 1' and an E note on 'Arp. button 2' and an G note on 'Arp. button 3. and an A note on Arp. button 5' - how would i go about achieving it? Would i have to press down on C, E, G and A keys all at the same time while having Apr. buttons 1,2,3 and 5 selected on the sequencer?
Are there alternative options to approaching programming the arpeggiator?
Apologies if this is long winded and a bit naive, i'm new to the Microkorg and just playing around with it and i'm sure the more i do the more educated i'll become in it.
