Problem that occures on pa800/pa2x

Post by anderson »

Hi,

I've been "Korgist" for 12 years now. My first one was Poly800, and than came: Trinity, N5ex, Triton.

From December 2007, I ma owner of Pa2xPro. I was satisfied 'till month ago, when problem happened. It was a problem with loading OS, sometimes it loads untill the end, and sometimes it does not.
And when it loads, few leds are not working, nad in Media mode, when I choose HD, message shows up: Device not found.
Although I bought keyboard in official dealer's shop, I took it to the service of their own.
And the problem was: CPU motherboard of my Pa2x was dead!
They carge replacing of it 400E!
I took my time to ckeck up on forums, and believe or not, I wasn't the only one.
In Serbia (where I come from) only, I found 'bout 15 pa800/pa2x owners with the same problem.
Man in the service was very decent and told me that problem with leds happends all the time on pa2x, but problem with motherboard is connected to pa800 mainly.
When I asked the man what happends to the old motherboards, he said they ship it back to Korg.

Just don't reply that I am the one of statisctiscs, please.

Now, after 12 years of enjoyment in Korg arrangres, I shall start looking up for arragner keyboards made by brand that begins with Y and R.

PS. I hope that all of you will be more satisfied with pa800/pa2x of yours, than I am with mine one!

Hi Youni,

I don't understand. There is a fix available from Korg by replacing two circuit boards. Why don't you get this done under warranty?

a) Have they sold that many? How do you know?
b) How do you know they did not take action, I thought they had last year?
c) How do you know when Youni and others bought their Pa2x's?

Thanks,
Rob

Just to clarify this before it gets completely out of proportion. The action that I am aware that Korg took concerning the LED faults on the Pa2x was as follows:

a) In Jan 08, I was one of the first customers of a Pa2x, my machine exhibited LED failures and occasional freezing.

b) From Jan 08 to Sep 08 Korg corresponded frequently with me and some other users to try to determine the nature of the faults.

c) In Oct '08 Korg recalled my Pa2x to the labs in Italy for extensive testing.

d) In Nov '08 Korg labs determined that a faulty batch of LED's from their supplier had caused the problems. They replaced both front panel PCB's on my Pa2x under warranty.

e) In Nov '08 Korg published an announcement on this forum (tramannoni) that the LED faults would be repaired under warranty for the small number of Pa2x's that were affected.

f) In Nov '08 Korg shipped spare front panel PCB's and technical instructions about this fault to all their repair/warranty centers, and they changed the source of supply of the LEDs to use LED's from a different manufacturer.

g) Everyone that I know on the forum (until now) took immediate action to get their Pa2x's repaired under warranty.

h) There had (until now) been no reports of recurrence of this problem on new Pa2x's.

i) As far as I am aware, everyone that has taken their Pa2x to a Korg repair center to have this fault rectified has had the work done completely free of charge.

I stress that I'm not a Korg spokesperson. Like many others on this forum, I try to help other users and I try to stay objective and positive about things, while always being fair to the user community and to Korg.

Best regards,
Rob

Dear Rob,

First of all,

thank you for trying to be helpfull! I would like to underline before I start that KORG is my favorite keyboard manufacturer, and it always was.

a) Frankly, as I wrote above, there are more than 15 problems wtih these KB's in Serbia only. I doubt it's small number. I am under strong influence of Korg and now I am very sorry that this is happening!

b) to everysingle one of us here problem occuerd after warranty date expierd. And better don't ask how I take care of my instruments and equipment.

c) I bought my pa2x at official dealer's

d) 400e is to much far away from free charge

e) Comapring to cars, I hope you'll agree that PA2Xpro is not an Inian Tata motors. Oh no, comparing to the car industry, Korg PA2Xpro can be in shoes of some Mercedes or BMW, expencive one, fully equiped!
Just put yourself in certin situation:
You've just bought BMW (say X6) brand new one...
After year and a half it srarts to mullfunction. You take it to the service, they fix it and charge it!

f) Tell me, please what is the price of Pa2X in Greece?
Now, new one in Serbia costs 2700e, 3000 was when I bought it.

and

g) 400e is more than 10 percents of 3.000e.
Comparing to some expensive car, I don't know... say 50.000E (wow)...
It is the the same like you payed more then 5000e for some spaer part!

Thank you for reading this!

ooooo, c'mon,
there is more than 5000 pa800 only in Turkey and Bulgaria!

I had problem with that circuit....

I payed 550 euros in service to make it work!

And it was general korg distribotor service.
I think this is not ok.

@anderson: bravo for comapring! pa2x can be mercedes!
you save money and buy merc. and it not works!
Then you never buy merc. again.
It is about reputation!

Well, I agree with both of you that you should not have been charged for repair work that was necessary due to a known manufacturing defect on the Pa2x. I don't know the situation on the Pa800. If this happened in England or USA the consumer rights sale of goods legislation would have protected you even outside the warranty period and you would not have been charged. Maybe consumer rights and the law protecting consumers in Serbia has to change. I also agree with you that this situation is damaging to Korg's reputation, but since I don't work for Korg I can't influence what I believe to be a big mistake being made by their Serbian distributor.

I can only say that Korg's policy about out-of-warranty support for users in the USA and UK and Italy appears to be far better than it is in Serbia, maybe because the consumer legislation and enforcement is better, but I don't know.

Best regards,
Rob

What happens to the LEDs if you go back and re-install the previous OS?
If they work again, then it could be an OS issue - if they still remain dead, then is is more likely a hardware problem and coincidence.

Timur,

I don't think the OS version or installation would have anything to do with LED failure. The only correlation may be that LED's on a faulty Pa2x are more likely to fail when cycling the mains power on/off.

One question - do you always connect the power to your keyboards via an Uninterruptable Power supply (UPS)? Since I started using a UPS my keyboards and computers have been 100% reliable.

Best regards,
Rob
