Is Korg M3m Rackable?
I see it says "tabletop" in some of the online stores for the keyboardless M3m version. What I noticed is the metal ridge on the bottom, and didnt see rack mounting hardware.
1. Is it truly "rackable" fitting into a standard rack?
2. Can you lay it level and facing forward? (Like a clock or a computer monitor, NOT on its back with screen upward)
IF it doesnt fit into a standard rack and can't lay flat forward, why do they sell it?

Its not rack size. If you look at photos with the M3m next to the Radias-R (R for Rack, M for Module....), it is about a quarter wider than the Radias rack module.

you've answered your own question. Like the electribes - they aren't rackmount, but that doesn't make them unusable. Particularly with the chord/trigger pads, you don't necesarily need any keys to do some decent performance or sequencing/song creation with the unit.I see it says "tabletop"

Yep sits on a desktop very well all on it's own.
Here's a video of me playing my one that's just sitting on my Piano. Everything you here is from the M3. The piano is only used as a controller.

The M3 is just sitting there on it's own, not tied down at all.
Regards
Sharp.

Back in days of old there were these things called "record albums". You can read about them in history books.StephenKay wrote: What *are* those strangely shaped large pieces of square cardboard underneath the shelf?

Actually Vinyl is making a bit of a comeback with several small stores popping up that sell records and even a few new bands releasing a vinyl option along with their CD. Good to see!

Re: Is Korg M3m Rackable?
Some people just want the sounds, not the keyboard, so this modular approach saved Korg R&D money. Korg didn't have to design and develop a separate rack unit version, since the M3M is identical to the keyboard versions (expect for the missing keyboard).stealthgear wrote: IIF it doesnt fit into a standard rack and can't lay flat forward, why do they sell it?

Hi stealthgear,
You can also mount the M3M on a sturdy music/laptop stand and still link it to its keybed like this, the supplied cable is plenty long enough. The keyboard resting on top of the M3 88 note keybed is my Pa2x. The small A-frame stand and the music stand and laptop stand extension arms are made by Jaspers in Germany, available worldwide. I bought mine from Thomann.

Regards,
Rob

This is kinda cool:
A friend of mine had no choice but to rack-mount his M3. Obviously it's way too wide for a rack, so he designed an "out-board" rack holder-type thing that holds the M3 just outside of the rack. It's reallllly cool. Idk how he attached the M3 to the arms that came out of the rack, but the whole M3 can tilt. It's right at the top of the rack, so it doesn't really block any of the other equipment in the rack.
I'll see if I can get some pictures to post.

There's alot of "tabletop"synths these days that won't fit into a rack-The Prophet '08 module comes to mind immediately. So did my Oberheim xPanders-I had to set up a separate stand to hold them every night.
Maybe you could cram an M3 brain into a 19" wide unit, but how tall would it be (would you have to sacrifice the Touchview?)?
My emulator 3xp fits in my rack, but, for a rackmount unit that isn't an amplifier, it makes the rack weigh a ton.

No Sir, the Prophet08 is rack-mountable. "Ears" are provided by DSI along with the wood side panels.carlgoodhines wrote:There's alot of "tabletop"synths these days that won't fit into a rack-The Prophet '08 module comes to mind immediately.
