M50 61 key and latest OS (1.1.0). Any users?

I am wondering how many 61 key M50 users are on this site, and if they are running version 1.1.0 of the OS or something older.

Are you happy if you are running 1.1.0?
Any problems?

To start off,...
I had the system freeze up twice since updating from an older version to 1.1.0. I have since gone to an older version of the OS and have yet to see the problem again.

Got my M50-61 almost a year ago. Upgraded from 1.0.2 right to 1.1.0 almost immediately upon opening the box. No issues whatsoever since.

I bought mine new, almost 6 months ago. Also upgraded first day out of the box, or maybe the day after. No problems.

Upgraded from the oldest version to 1.1.0 since the first day I purchased the unit (almost 1 year ago). No problems at all, and there shouldn´t be any problem in a well built unit.

Statistics would say that since there are three different sizes then 1/3 of the users posting have the 61-key, but since that is also the cheapest I think it's a bit higher than that.

Got my 61 almost a year ago, didn't update directly because we were in the middle of rehearsing with the school band and I didn't want to risk anything happening. Finally did the update during summer, no problems. Have had it happen once that I got a stuck note, but that was when I had it connected to the editor plugin.

I bought my M50-61 just over a year ago and updated to the latest OS right away. So far there have not been any problems.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Perhaps the OS is not the source of my problem. I have been told I may have some faulty capacitors somewhere in the power (system).

Perhaps OS 1.1.0 is a bit more sensitive to power issues.

Thought I would report that the M50 just froze under OS version 1.0.5

That closes the issue for me. It is NOT OS related.

Alp,

I bought my M50 in november 2009. It came With OS 1.1.0. The freezing problem started after an month of use. Can't say what causes it but is very irritating. Either The control surface and led's freeze, and i can't operate the synth. But today it even stopped playing sounds. Im am thinking of an RMA.

Bought mine during November 2009, running 1.1.0. Haven't had any problems with it so far, except that some patches sound strange at the top if doing a slide. This seems to be a "free of charge feature".

I initially eyed the M3 61, but the price-to-talent ratio was too high.

I'm just guessing, but I believe the 73 key model is (and should be) the least sold, based on the discussions in this forum. It's also the least cost-efficient, considering you pay quite a lot more for 12 more keys of the same type as in the 61 key model and nothing else, while the 88 key version's price is motivated by a considerably better keybed.

Cheers

It may be least sold but it wasn't released to the market until many months later. The 73 key M3 is the MOST sold M3 I believe.

Korg or Karma would know.

There might be a reason M3 73 sells more, but I'm guessing again: It can house both M3 and RADIAS full modules. The 61 model can't. Except for that the models are identical.

No such criteria apply to the M50, as it can't be expanded. If you are fine with 61 keys, you save $300 (give or take). That's a lot for just 12 more keys. The price difference is almost pure differentiation. You can get a used MicroKorg for that price, which would complement the M50 nicely. I went strictly for most bang for the buck, so I guess I'm a scrooge.

I looked at the 88 key version, but skipped it for the following reasons:
* I didn't want a weighted keybed for quick organ/synth play; it's a trade-off, but piano works reasonably too
* The 61 model packed a tremendous sonic and functional punch for the price at the time (I don't know if anything has topped it yet)
* It was too close to M3 61 in price (at least a used one), which is a much more powerful synth expandability wise; I would rather have gone with the M3 61 than M50 88

Personal opinions of course, but might be helpful to someone weighing pros and cons. I'm sure buyers of the 73 and 88 models have their equally good reasons.

Cheers.

I'd have bought an 88 key synth action for 600 bucks more than the price of a 61 key. You just can't have enough keys when you do a lot of splits and layers. 61 isn't even an option for me anymore. I almost didn't buy the 73 key M3 or M50 because I wanted 3 more keys.

I could be wrong on the M3-73 being the most sold, I just know they ran out of stock on those first which is why they have the larger SD cards than the 61 or 88 in the US.
