hi all

• first go into COMBI mode then C-127 user Combi or any other combis which you dont like ,activate it fully make sure that all 8 timbres are activated

• then in the COMBI mode go to the PROG page by pressing F2
  then press F8 and select option "solo select timbre" or press ENTER+1.

• then assign tones to each timbre you want to use in a live show. then you can use IFX on selected tone and MFX on all tones.

• then press two buttons at a time(such as ctrl+c as a copy command in p.c.) Timbre/track (left in the F1) +the timbre which you want to play(F2----F8 )
  Ex. Timbre/Track + F2

• overwrite the combi .

BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

• for playing in shows you have to do is only go to the COMBI mode then go to the prog page(F2) then press F8 and select option "solo select timbre" or press ENTER+1.

Advantages:-
1.no sound cuts when you change prog
2.you can clearly see on the display which 8 tones tou have assigned on the f-buttons and change them while pressing keys in another patch.
3.IT is very easy than YAMAHA OR ROLAND technique in that you cant see which tone is assigned on which F-buttons .
4.i've been using this technic for 4 years and i never desired any roland product because of this.
5.you can do this in any korg models with similar GUI

I never thought of doing it that way - although it is similar to Kanthos' way of using individual tracks in sequencer mode.

Also, with your method, if you are in the mix or prog tab or anything else, you can use the left/right arrows to switch between timbres - saves having to press two buttons

yes but in SEQ mode you are not able to overwrite or save the config that you hv created........

Yes you can !! By using the cue list function. You can re-order or insert new patches, whatever your heart desires.

This method won't work if you want to layer two or more things from your TR or Triton (including only one sound on the Triton and one or more external sounds on different MIDI channels), but if you mainly play single programs at once, this'll be great.

well actually it is only for programs because i mostly use programs while playing live

Is there a way to assign the volume of each of four timbres to each of the B assign knobs? For instance, Knob 1 controls volume of Timbre 1, Knob 2 controls volume of timbre 2 , knob three-timbre 3.

I've tried setting all 4 knobs to "volume" and then only enabling each knob for it's corresponding timbre but even doing this, any single knob controls the volume of all timbres which have the volume enabled. (I guess this would work w/Local off and a looped-back midi cable as the knobs are sending midi messages).

Any ideas??

You can do it for two timbres, or groups of timbres, by using Volume for knob 1 and Expression for knob 2.

Note that 'volume' refers to the mixer level directly, whereas Expression is a submultiple of the mixer volume, so for example Volume will go from 0-127 providing a volume range of 0-127, whereas Expression for a timbre whose mixer level is 102 for example, the full range of the Expression control will equate to 0-102. This helps to maintain the balance between timbres in a combi when using for example an expression pedal. Volume would override that and force up to a full on value and all timbres connected to that control would sound at the same mixer level.

anyway, getting carried away...

set Knob 1 to Volume. Set knob 2 to Expression.
Now in the MIDI Filter pages, change the checkboxes so that the messages from each knob only go to the timbres you want them to control.

This doesn't work for setting all four knobs to Volume or Expression though because they then all evaluate down to one knob (well, CC) on the same MIDI channel, and just override eachother controlling all of the checked timbres for all knobs.

There are further workarounds if you are using specific programs by changing their settings in Program mode such that they can have their volume/level controlled by a different knob or other parameter CC.

For example piano set to have level controlled by Knob 1, Strings program whose level is controlled by Knob 2, Guitar program whose level is controlled by Joystic-Y... etc.

Can't you assign two or more of the tracks to the same midi channel to layer more than one sound to one track? Then on the other tracks, if you wanted to layer a Triton track and external rack together, you could use EX2 for the external rack module (on an adjacent track) and set it to use the same midi channel as the Triton track. This would be (different from the first track (track 1) that would contain some other program). For example, track 1 is set to an organ sound on midi channel 1. Track (2 and 3) are set to midi channel 2, triggering two different sounds simitanously (piano & strings), track (4,5 and 6) are set to midi channel 3, tracks (4 and 5 are triton sound (paino&strings) and trk6 is an EX2 triggering a rack mount (bell)). Then use the right a left arrows buttons to go back and forth. You would eat up tracks (from the total of 8, but you can do it this way I believe.)

Is there any way to enable this kind of function with a split? Specifically, keep the same left hand bass sound going on the lower 2 octaves of the keyboard, while having one-button access to a bunch of commonly used sounds to call up on the right side of the split, with the same advantages of no sound cutting out and a visible display of the names of the sounds you can choose from?

I picked up a used TR a while back and have hardly used it, but this kind of functionality could come in quite handy.

I've been looking for a thread like this for a while. I'm totally new to korg, and I don't really play the piano. But the pianist in my band is playing a korg triton le for a medley, and so obviously we need to change sounds fast.

I tried to proceed as explained, but only the first timber plays. The others are muted. I can assign sounds to them, no probs, but they don't play.

Could any one give me an easy-to-follow explanation? Like I said, I'm new to this, so any term is thus new to me too. A way to save the settings would also be great
