Hi Navid,

After you've "installed" the Korg USB MIDI driver software there is one item remaining to do ... plug in and switch on your M3, then ...

In the "Korg USB MIDI Drivers Tools" folder there is a utility called "Install Korg USB MIDI Device". Select that option and then the M3 driver installation will complete.

Hi Navid,

I thought on the MAC version there was also a function called "Install Korg USB MIDI Device" that had to be run. My apologies if I am mistaken, I don't have a MAC, only Windows.

Navid -- mine does this too, and it's ok. The important thing is what is shown bottom left of the Editor. See page 41 of the manual "Connection indicator (M3 logo)".

When successfully connected over USB, the icon is all red. This is how mine is, and it all works.

When I look at the Preferences and MIDI Settings in this state, all the items there are still blank. This is to be expected though, because I'm connected over USB and not over MIDI (technically it's MIDI over USB I presume, but it's not MIDI directly). We can ignore that dialog box.

If you have the red icon, you are good to go.

If you only have the silver icon, you still have a problem. (And if it's orange, you have other things going on :-)).

you are absoultely right about the icon color I don't have red icon it is silver, what surprise me though that if I disconnect the USB cable, the silver M3 icon disappears completly, and I was getting the impression that M3 is appropiately connected with the mac beacause the icon shows up everytime I connect the M3, now please tell me how do I get the red icon? what setting do I have to do, I already tried 2-3 different USB cables. :?:

Navid,

Just to check ... the USB cable you need is called a USB printer cable, and it has different connectors at each end. The flat end goes into the computer, the square end goes into the "square" host connector on the M3.

AFAIK, at least for every other KORG product, you do still have to specify a MIDI port. The USB-MIDI is no different to the computer than if you had a USB-MIDI interface cable or box plugged in, it is still just a USB port.

I don't think they would change that just for one product?

edit:
Actually, looking at it, I think you're right. I don't know why this is, but in the M3 editor the MIDI page in preferences is more like that in the Legacy Collection standalone plugins - you are setting Input ports only, I presume to allow you to control the M3M with another keyboard over USB whilst connected through USB.
...Interesting

And: No, there is no 'Install Device' for the Apple Mac KORG USB MIDI Driver, once you've installed it, it should just work.

Can I recommend that you try: turn off the Mac, Turn off the M3. Unplug the USB cable.
Now, Start the Mac, wait until you are at the desktop. Now connect the USB cable to the M3, and power on the M3. Give it a minute, then load the software editor.
The order is sometimes important like this for driver-related things - if you launch the M3 editor before the M3 is connected, I don't think it'll recognise the M3. Similarly, Some things only show up if they are connected before power-on. Speaking in general terms here...

Yes Rob, I am using the right cable otherwise the M3 icon would not show up on the Mac, I think "dswtan" knows the problem I am having and I am waiting for his further reponse in this matter, thanks for your help..

Hi Navid,

Another thought. Are you using these versions of the software:

M3 OS version 2.04
Korg MIDI over USB version 1.0.8 for MAC
Korg M3 Editor version 2.2.0 for MAC

There were some MIDI compatibility issues with Snow Leopard and later OS on the MAC, but these were supposed to have been resolved in all the latest Korg software releases above.

Best regards,
Rob

Navid,

I just saw you posted this info on Karma Labs ...
M3 Editor for Mac
Host: M3 Editor version 1.2.3
Core: M3 Plug-In Fx version 2.2.0
and Korg M3 with System Version 2.04
The M3 Editor version should be reading 2.2.0 on both the Plug-In and the standalone version. Somehow, a version mismatch on the MAC has occurred. You need to de-install everything from Korg and then re-install making sure the M3 Editor version is 2.2.0.

Also please confirm the USB MIDI version is 1.0.8?

Thanks,
Rob

I do agree the that Navid should try a reinstall (the missing icon issue doesn't sound good), but my versions are the same as his and I'm working fine (on OS X 10.6.2, and earlier editions).

M3 Editor for Mac
Host: M3 Editor version 1.2.3
Core: M3 Plug-In Fx version 2.2.0
and Korg M3 with System Version 2.04

I've tried installing the M3 editor software v 2.2 three times, and the version for it doesn't change. It stays at 1.2.3
Might there be a problem with this?

Try uninstalling the old editor instead of trying to overwrite it.

Also, are you sure the new installer is overwriting the old one, instead of writing to a different location?
