SERIOUS RADIAS problem!!!

any help is highly appreciated.

Here is the problem:

I´m changing some parameters in (for example) the EQ/FX section. Then suddenly, Radias decides to jump into the OSC/MIXER section, and automatically changes some parameters on it´s own! This can happen in any section, not just the ones I mentioned.

What is this? :O

Has anybody else had this problem?
If you know anything about this matter, please, help me.

Hi Mack,

I would guess it is a faulty or intermittent connection. Does it happens only when you edit a parameter? How about using the sound editor? Does it jumps too?

Yeah, it sounds like you have some knob jitter problems.

Have you got Catch mode enabled? and it sounds like you are using 'jump to page'.

anyway, setting catch mode for the knobs will reduce the symptoms but not really solve the problem.

The sound editor works fine, I haven´t witnessed any problems there. Although, I don´t use the editor on a daily basis.

The problem can also occur without me editing anything. Sometimes when I´m in Program mode just scrolling thru my sounds and playing for a while, I hear something change in the structure of the sound. Then i know this has happened again, and I always confirm it by checking my parameters.

this is a tricky one, but i also suspect there is some kind of problem with the connections inside. I hope this isn´t the case, but can´t see many other choices.. It really can´t be the software.

When you are playing and this occurs, does the display changes i.e. to edit mode?
I'm trying to figure out if the "jitter" comes from the front panel section (knobs) or is either in the internal data paths, which would be if the display doesn't changes

when I´m in Program mode playing and Radias starts to edit things by itself, the screen stays at Program mode (doesn´t jump to edit mode).

If in edit mode, the screen jumps always to where ever it decides to change parameters..

I have experienced something very similar.

I believe it is related to temperature (at least in my case) as my keyboard is in the basement in a room that can get cold in the winter time. It usually presents itself when I first turn it on then goes away after awhile. It can be very frustrating when you are editing and it jumps to another section. As I am not watching the screen I don't notice that the parameters are changing till it is too late. This hasn't happened lately and the last time was prior to Christmas (when it was very cold here). I also started covering my keyboard up with a heavy plastic sheet so that may help as well I really don't know.

Tim.

Well in your case Teedotyyz, it could be condensation of water if temperature decreases fast which is one you may have in common (cold winters). But I can hardly imagine playing KB at such low temps.. :P

If the problem occurs often, I would start the sound editor, activate autodump, load a library, select a patch and open its timbre to see if the parameters in it change when this occurs, as a way to see what gets changed.

I doubt this has anything to do with temperature. My Radias does these jumps and it´s own editing nearly always. It´s warm in my apartment always (since i hate cold), so it can´t be that. And my radias does this even if it´s been on for hours.

I´ll try to re-download the software if it would make a difference.

feel free to share any other ideas :D
anyway, thank you everyone.

Mack: That is a good suggestion. If this continues to occur I will reload the latest version. Based on the fact that it hasn't happend lately I am hoping the problem has corrected itself.

Axxim: You would be surprised what I have to go through to play my keyboard. I have three little kids under foot and a wife that dosen't take my hobby very seriously. I guess she doesn't like being married to a "rock star".

Axxim I have downloaded your latest patches and have tried them out. I especially like the vocoder patch for Saga.

Thanks for all your hard work, it is greatly appreciated for a newbie like me.

i need a little help..

i´m going to re-install the software and firmware.. i just don´t know how this is done. I tried to simply install the new software but the installer won´t let me, because i have the latest version already.
i can´t find a way to un-install, or fully just install the newest versions..

any ideas/knowledge how to re-install the newest software to the radias?

It won't be a software problem. You've got a problem with the knob potentiometers.

If it were software, you'd usually see more serious side effects like no sound, garbled display, completely meaningless LED and control operation, etc. It is very rarely the OS with a device like this that causes the problem. And you have already described all of the problems associated with analog knob jitter.

I also asked if you had turned 'Catch' mode on, which would solve the symptoms but not the source of the problem, but at least make the machine 90% usable.

The best solution to any hardware related problem is to get a qualified electronics or a keyboard tech to look at it, or take it to a KORG service centre, particularly if you are still in warranty.

yeah, i know it isn´t a software problem. I just needed to try and to keep my hopes up, if it made any difference. Because the next step is to send it to my Korg service centre, which i´m doing now. Luckily i´m still in warranty.

Anyway,
thank you everyone.

same problem here. well, almost - the jumping happens only when i'm in the timbre section and it goes to the filter section. i guess it's a matter of time this switching to become random. it's a pitty, i thoutht it is a serious instrument made seriously - after all that's what the price tag suggests!

best possible choice! as you do not want to do anything that will void your warranty.
