Hi. I've just bought an EM1 primarily for drums and was a little bit miffed to discover that saving a pattern will not save the parts that you have got muted in their muted state- (so that when you return to play the pattern they are off waiting to be unmuted)- all the parts are playing! Can someone tell me please- is this also the case with the ES1?

Yes unfortunately you cannot save mutes.

Just so someone doesn't see this and think "oh no..." you can mute after switching the song while the first song continues to play.

Also.....as a work around for live performance, i find it handy to create a few copies of patterns that contain parts that are filtered to zero. It only takes a quik knob twist to bring the part back in. This works for the ES on all parts but only the synth parts on the EM. The level knob will do the same job too on all parts on both machines but you have to get your timing right to sound passable.
Although this is assuming that the filter/level are set 100% on the regular patterns, or it could be tricky to get back to the same vol/freq.
At least they solved this problem on the EMX/ESX!

yeah it's one of my biggest troubles with the machine...best work around is to make patter 1 with bass, pattern 2 with bass and snare, pattern 3 with hi hats added etc etc...but that also causes the problem of having to arrange your songs based on what part combinations you have on each pattern...

For real! I have an ESX, but my bandmate just bought an ES-1 mkII. So I'm trying to help him learn the ropes and finding out the big differences between the 2 machines!

I have both(the ES1 was first). Although the ESX beats it in many ways,i wouldnt get rid of my ES1. It has a cool sound and filter. And the 'decimator' effect sounds wayyy better than the ESX's!
