maybe we can lobby korg to do something to fix this problem.

i have spent nearly 1.000 euros for this workstation and it simply freezes continuously when playing.

There has been some speculation that this problem may be limited to the m50-61. It would be interesting to hear if the 73s or 88s ever experience this issue ..

M50 61 here, 1.1 OS, never experienced freezing. I bouthgt it almost a year ago.
Can't see why 61 version would be more prone to fail, really.
Maybe a loose connection? A compatibility issue with a pedal?

I bought my M50 61 over a year ago and I've never had the freezing problem. It has the OS v1.1.0.

I have YET to see a single complaint from a 73 or 88 user. I've had my 73 since it came out and it's never had any issues.

I'd have like to have seen the options of YES on a 61, Yes on a 73, or YES on an 88 key along with NO for all three.

For what I have heard and read around here, the M50 freezing problem is a hardware (electronics) problem, and is only fixed by either swapping the main board or the whole keyboard. I think it has happened to a very few number of them.

Interesting would be to know the serial number of the affected ones, maybe it was a bad batch.

BTW, more than a year and no issues whatsoever.

I had my m50 61 running on os 1.0.3 and I think that was a bit of the problem. I was in the middle of a competitive ensemble season using it so I didn't want to mess around with the hardware. Right before finals competition it locked up and wouldn't work. Had to send it to the shop and had it back 3 weeks later.

Users that have that problem have to be clear as to what conditions they are using the equipment.
I've read a few of this complaints (like, 4 persons in total?), and IIRC a couple were due to a messy sustain pedal or something like that.
In TheWindWaker01's case, responsibility went to Korg probably if it was a manufacture problem, and they apparently fixed the unit?

The most sold unit must be the 61 version, that's a possible reason for complaint coming that way.
Before someome brings the Japan/China fact: not necessarily has to do with it IMO, we're not buying cheap chinese toys. China has _also_ a quality manufacturing industry; not everything is cheap market oriented, and I believe this is the case of what Korg, Behringer, Samsumg and many others are doing, CMIIW.

If the problem were actually happening to many units, I'd like to see a response from Korg to this users, and maybe as Mocando says, it could be a bad batch (like what happened to Roland's Juno G, quite freaky). But there's little proof of that, honestly. Until we can assert such a situation, I'd say we're analizing a few individual cases.

they've been selling M50's for over a year now. There's plenty of 73 and 88's out there. Plus, I gig mine constantly. SOMEONE with a 73 or 88 would have experienced it by now.

Yeah, that might be the case but you must also keep in mind that not every owner of M50 visit these forums :)

true, but many do visit forums and I've ONLY seen posts from 61 key owners. Find me just one 73 or 88 key owner with the same issue and I'll agree with ya. Promise.

M50-61 freezing

Hi,

ik did have the freezing problem. I bought the M50-61 in november 2009. It had OS 1.1.0 already installed. After a few weeks of home use, the problem started. Symptoms:

- the tempo light stops
- the buttons (like combi, program, etc.) stop working
After a few minutes it would also stop playing notes.

Switching on and of seemed to help. But a few weeks later i got messages after starting up: "updating left panel, updating right panel. Please restart". And it just kept doing that.

I sent it back for repair in januari 2010. Korg couldn't repair it so i got a replacement (in April).

Unfortunately i didn't write down the serial of the defective one.

Elpedro.

you've been lucky to get a replacement.

i am going to send my M50 to local tech assistance here in Italy for the same problem, but they said it is not possible to have replacement even under warranty...

i will see what they will do....
