Weird Glitch?

I think this is a glitch.

Basically, I'll start from an init patch, and all I'll do is go to the Mixer section. I'll add in oscillator 2, and then these weird sound jumps happen. There should be no modulation going on since this is an init patch....

listen:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1715217/Output%2012.mp3

first part is just osc 1, second is osc 1 + 2. I'm playing the same exact 2 notes.

any ideas? knowing myself its probably just how waves interact lol and I'm stupid

update: even weirder, If I turn osc 2 to sync mode, and then back to off, it doesn't do this

The phase of the oscillators are free-running. That means that between notes, the oscillators are still clocking over - still sounding even, just not at any amplitude.

then thanks to using detuning in other programs and using the analog detune parameter and so on, your oscillators will be naturally in a different phase to eachother, just like on most analog synths.

The nords are particularly known for not doing this - it results in the same attack every time as both oscillator start off at zero, giving a kind of static sampled sound to detune synth sounds like trance saws - which is actually surprisingly popular. In the 'unison' OSC1 mode you can set the starting phase spread for the five oscillators to achieve an effect like this - leaving it at zero being most obvious. For the least obvious effect I put the init phase at about 75%...

Anyway, I'm sure you know about wave cancellation:
at 180 degrees out of phase, the same waves at the same amplitude cancels out - because one wave is for example outputting 1, the other is outputting -1, the result being zero when added together.

Because your oscillators phase are free-running, but now tuned to the same pitch (so not drifting apart causing that lovely detuned phasing effect), you get a seemingly random amount of phase cancellation for each voice.

by playing two notes in the way that you are playing, it is possible that you can be triggering the same two notes over and over again.
