Drums & Radias

Post by CFC »

What is the best way to make a drum sequence with the radias?
I find programming drums with the step sequencer pretty awkward as there is no real indication where in the time line you exactly are and when I am not really satisfied with the drum sounds I have to reload the entire patch because there seems to be no init step sequencer option (at least I haven't found one).
Isn't there any record mode so I can play the drums on the keys and they get saved on the sequencer?

I know the Radias isn't a drum machine in the first place and usually my MC-909 is up to this task but as for jamming it would be great to know how this can be done without beeing an einstein project ;)

You can use the record button and go through step by step. That's how I do it. It does show you along the bottom where you are, kindof - it shows the number of steps you've entered so far. You can still highlight fields and make edits and go to different steps, the difference is that it takes input from the keyboard straight to the current step rather than having to do it all manually just in edit mode.

I also think there should be an init sequencer option in the Utility page (put 16 keys in 'page' mode, hit the last one on the end (number 16), highlight the selection field to change away from 'Init Prog, Init Timbre, etc.

Also, if you put the keys in 'trigger' mode, and go to the 2nd page of the step sequencer edit (not step edit), you can select which note or drum you are editing and use the 16 keys (and the page buttons to the left of them) to enter different steps like the Electribe and other pattern grid sequencers.

BTW how you adjust filters/effects/effect sends for particular drum sound in Radias-R? Do you have to setup drum program in special drum edit mode/page like on M3, ending up with clumsy drum sound editing/adjustment, which requires constant switching between two modes in order to correctly balance drums with other sounds for particular combi/patch?
