This is the first song I ever made, about a year and a half ago, when I was just starting with keyboards and digital music. Unfortunately, I can't find the original project files on my other PC, so this is a quick sloppy render that I have:

It's obviously pretty cheesy (almost disney channel pop cheesy) lol. The only part of the song I really like at the moment is the (horribly off-tempo) bass breakdown around 3/4s through. However, I think if I start fresh I can rework the progression into a new song.
I'm thinking of ways to improve the song. Obviously there is a definite need for EQing and quantizing. However, I'm probably going to start a 100% fresh recording on my mac instead of editing the old one, so that I can get a fresh better produced take.
I'm thinking of eliminating the piano part all together, IDK. The spaces in the song with just the synth strings are meant to have vocals, the part with the octave synth (the duh-DUH-duh-DUH thing) is where chorus lyrics would be.
Any ideas on different arrangements for the song, different synth sounds to use, different progressions? I'm going to be starting fresh and hopefully just use my R3 and X50 (all the instruments in that song are from Cakewalk MC5).
The current recording is obviously a bit cheesy but by adding in different synths, using effects, doing lots of EQing/compressing and of course adding vocals to a fresh mix I make on my Mac might go somewhere.
As a side note, any idea what that octavey synth is? It sounds squarey at upper notes but sawey at lower ones (maybe keytracking or something?) seems to be a bit of distortion, and a little portamento. Obviously the poor song render quality lends a little to the distortion of the sound.
Anyways, I know some of you have been composing for decades, I'd love to hear your advice on where I can go with this
