I have a Korg Triton 88 key and it is just to big to lug around for shows.

I was going to buy an inexpensive light 76 or 88 midi keyboard and try to find string, sax and piano sounds that will suffice in Reason when I play out.

Now I am thinking this might be a chance to buy a Trinity (61 key) again. I had a Trinity with MOSS ten years ago and traded it in for the Triton. I have never been happy with the Triton. I am not arguing which is better. I just never was able to create the lush sounds and guitar I did on the Triton. I am happy with the piano on the Triton and the ability to layer subtle pads underneath the piano.

If I get a Trinity Plus will I find the strings and piano comparable? Is the Plus going to be pretty close to the first Trinity I had with the MOSS?

Again, I am not bashing the Triton. I hear recordings I made with the Trinity MOSS and I want them again if the board will fulfill the needs I have with the music I am playing now using the Triton piano and strings (octave strings).

You could always try a TR rack. Has all the Trinity Sounds Plus an extra 2 Banks in BOTH Programs & Combi mode...Sounds lovely & is an improvement (IMHO...ofcourse) sonically over the original Trinity Soundbanks. Has a better Piano sample too. Banks C & D just shine that little bit more for some reason.

Personally I have a Trinity V3 & a TR rack. Love them both but There's a major difference in price. A V3 will set you back anything from (UK) £450 to £800 dependant on luck whereas a TR rack will cost between £130 & £200....Plugged into an 61/76 key, they sound great!

I hear you on the rack. Thing is, if I am going to use a midi board, I am going to use Reason for my sounds.

The thought was to get the Trinity if it will adequately provide the sounds listed. After perusing through youtube clips, I think it will.

You are right about the price which is why I am really slow to make this purchase, though on this side of the pond the prices I have found are a bit cheaper.

I've sold several Korg keyboards over the years only to regret the decision later down the road. This, however, was wasn't the case with my Trinity. I wouldn't think of parting with it for anything. So I'd say go for it. If you can pick one up with TRI-Solo or TRI-MOSS even better. I have the TRI-Solo and PBS-TRI boards and I love it. Not only does the PBS add 8MB of additional sample space, but the fact that it doubles up the amount of prog/combi banks and expands the S Bank to 127. It's a great combination.

Now I Know I am taking this slow to the point of annoyance for some - but what about the Korg Triton Extreme? They go for the same price as a Trinity - can use a MOSS and also have USB.

But....The extreme is a blue color! Well you can probably get a Z1 or V3 cheaper.

Hi, in my opinion, I think that if you are going to want the very best strings and pads, and maybe use a reason piano, you can definitely get the most awesome sound using a trinity. Not only that, the trinity looks so beautiful in any studio. The feel of the keybed is second to none. Plus, the keybed is more sturdy and will last longer than most current chinese made controllers. Of course its just my opinion. This is how I currently have my setup. Right now, I am saving for a Trinity module. Even with today's technology, the trinity still holds its own with pads and strings sounds, it is super amazing and beautiful!

I remember having to buy the MOSS but since it was so long ago I am almost certain I bought the first model Trinity.

Yes, the Trinity Plus has the Solo MOSS factory installed.

Trinity Plus has the monophonic SOLO-TRI (Korg Prophecy) expansion option installed.

Trinity V3 has the six-voice polyphonic MOSS-TRI (Korg Z1) expansion option installed.

Can't comment on the Tritons (vs. Trinity) as I've never had the chance to play on them.

Should be hear in a couple days.

Second guesser I am, I am already thinking I should have spent the extra 500 and gotten the M50.

Mmmm The Silver beast Vs plastic fantastic. I'll keep my V3 thanks. BTW the Plus doesn't have MOSS. The V3 does. Either way though....I'm sure you'll have fun!

Good to know. I swear I remember buying a MOSS for my Trinity. I take it a MOSS expansion board is available for the Trinity Plus?

And now for the history... The original Trinity was released in 1995 and had a hefty 24 MB sample ROM though it lacked some of the features described above. Then, in 1996 the Prophecy sounds were included in the Trinity Plus model. The V3 or Z1 MOSS board can be added to the older Trinity models.

As Timo has already pointed out: the plus has the SOLO-TRI option. V3 has the MOSS-TRI. Amongst others the main difference is in the number of voices: 1 in the solo and 6 in the moss. Monotimbral, though...

Also, it is worth to note that SOLO-TRI will work with OS pre version 3 (I seem to remember 2.41 being the last release) while MOSS-TRI requires OS V3 and above (I think also the name V3 came from the OS version - last release known to me is 3.12).
