Weird chords on 4 keys instead of chord trigger switch?

I'd like to preface this by saying I am a COMPLETE newb to synth workstations but an internet veteran, so I promise I did search the forums to try and locate a previous post/thread that covers my issue.
I've had my M50 since December '09 and have not had time to play it. I've turned it on and tinkered for half an hour, 3 or 4 times. (Yes, I realize this is sacrilege. I'm trying to change that now.)
Each of those times, as well as now, something strange is happening, and I can't figure out how to remedy it. These keys (on the "higher" end) - C#, D, D#, and E - instead of playing single notes, are playing some really weird chords or combination of sounds.
I found "restoring the factory settings" in the appendix of the user manual and have attempted to do just that.
I don't know if it worked, but I do know that those keys are still making the same funky sounds.
Any ideas?
