I need help connecting my M3 to my speakers.

The M3 is connected to the speakers via the main L and R channels outputs from the M3 into the audio inputs in the back of each speaker.

So the R output from the M3 is going into the R speaker audio input etc.

I couldn't hear anything at first, but then I put the local on in global, midi. However, when I load a song from my usb stick, there is no sound! And when I select midi on again, the keyboard changes from my song I have loaded in, back to the sun combi...

This is very annoying! Could this be because my Yamaha speakers are powered? HELP!

I have a gig coming up and really want everything sorted out for then. I will be connecting my M3 to a DI box and then into a mixer. Will this definitely work or will I need to change some internal settings on the M3 to get sound?

Plug your speakers into power, if that doesnt work then make sure you have your expansion USB stick plugged in.

After turning on "Local Control on" choose "Write Global Setting" command from the menu (in the upper right corner of the screen). This should make your setting permanent.

Everything is ok with your setup. You must connect the M3 to either powered speakers, an amplifier or a mixer. The M3 has line outputs i.e. the signal must be amplified. You cannot connect the M3 to passive speakers directly.

Yes, this will work, although a DI box is only required if you use long cables (> 10 m).

Yes - you can use computer speakers with the appropriate jack or adapter. Most computer speakers expect a stereo jack (TRS) so the adapter has to have the two black lines that indicate stereo function. Use the headphone jack - that is a stereo out and at about the signal level the computer speakers will be looking for. If your headphones work with the keyboard, your computer speakers should.

BTW, this is not a really good long term solution - best is to use the output jacks into an amp.

You may be happy with computer speakers, but Orpheus is right, if not terribly detailed in his response - you'll be missing a lot if your system is not very high quality, hopefully including a sub.

You can also hook it up to a normal household stereo system (for instance as the "AUX" input to the receiver). Mine works beautifully like that.
