It tells you the OS version on the splash screen when it starts up.

As for keyboards, I recommend anything with aftertouch. That is something the original included keyboard lacks, but which really enhances the expressiveness. By default the virtual patch source 'MIDI5' is mapped to aftertouch.
I personally always use 61-key keyboards with aftertouch. The old Kawai K1 was quite good but had issues with cutting out the sound and retriggering the arpeggiator, but it is definately worth looking at other old 2nd hand workstation keyboards - like the Korg M1, N5, X5D, etc.

I'm also looking for a keyboard to go with mine, however, i really want something that allows me to mount the module in front of the keys.

I know there probably isnt a specific keyboard like this now, but just some advice on how i could do this in a practical way would be useful!

Thanks.

M-Audio Keystation is really basic for what you want.
Korg R3, Roland SH-201, Roland MC-909, Novation Mininova, Novation Impulse 49, Korg EMX, and a bunch of VSTi's

I am curious about the stand for the rack version as well. If i mounted it in the rack, the outputs are on the top and not the back !

tough luck bud, gotta leave two rack spaces open unless you have a right angle midi plug (they exist) and you will need right angle everything except for the power supply
