2 M3 modules on 88 keyboard

I know the two modules talk to each other by midi. Has anyone done this before? I will tell my wife that is what I want for Christmas. I have the 61 key m2. All I would need is a 88 key m3 and transform into the mighty 88 key. I am a little unsure of how user friendly it would be or if there are problems in doing this. I have ideas on how I would love to use it but, you never know what could go wrong unless you have tried it. Plus I have never seen nor heard of anyone doing this. Anybody have experience the double module?

what are your ideas that you are considering using it for?
I'd also ask myself this question, if I were you... I really do like the m3, but do I like it enough to have 2 of them side by side?
I mean seriously what can you do with 2 that you can't do with one 1?
if it were me I'd just go another brand all together that way you REALLY expand your sonic capabilities....

You could double your polyphony with that setup... just set one to Odd Notes, the other to Even notes in Global Mode...

two sequencers?

what for?
two karmas?

what for?
combis with 32 layered sounds?
uhm...
remember you have just 16 midi channels,
and that you have no automatic function for splitting the kyeboard between the 2 m3s, you'd have to manual build combis which split or layer the two modules...
When I think of it, "waste of time" comes to my mind, rather than "immense power".
If you do it just for polyphony, you'll waste the money you pay for controls, lcd, sequencer, karma...
I'd rather add a totally different module.
I already recommended mounting a prophet08 module alongside the m3. Or a roland vsynth XT. or a clavia nord modular.
That would nicely complement the m3 with sounds whioch the m3 will never be able to produce.
Or, you could sell the m3 and buy a used Oasys.

That's what I do with my TWO OASYS 88's!

Sina
THAT's a slim and light setup!
Imagine playing a 256-notes-polyphonic rhodes piano (and a 64-not-polyphonic acoustic bass on your left hand!),
while carrying around just 85 pounds and 32 square meters of hardware!

Of course the Radias...who wants an exact replica of their GF/WIFE?
But one Blonde and one Brunette will do the Job tripple, not doubble.

you could double your polyphony and sounds... (oh yeah and headache too)
if you just buy another name brand all together though... (a head ache kinda worth having...)

I would use two M3s for adding dedicated effects.... 1 M3 just for drums and percussion, and the other for rest of the parts.......
two M3s
double polyphony
double Sample RAM
double effects
double KARMA engine
double RAIDAS exb...
32 parts...... works wonders for orchestral setups...

it doesn't make sense when you could just buy a XS rack, or a Fantom XR rack (1 GB of memory can be installed)
then there's the whole midi issue... how do you have 32 parts with only 16 midi channels....

I use the M3 totally to make my beats cause I just don't like using the computer much anymore. I used to me 100% on computers. Now I was thinking double of everything. Ram, effects, 4 more karma mods etc.. let me ask ya'll this. Do you think there is a a way to control M3 #1 tracks 9 - 16 with M3 #2.
You could store all your samples in one m3 and seq on the other.
getting a yamaha motif or fantom rack no touch screen, sliders nor karma.
but a radias do looks nice with the M3 as well. Love the youtube video.

well...
for RAM... and other stuff... did you try to see (listen) the XF ?
Or Fantom-G, or even PA2x (for making beats it's a monster) ?

I think I would possibly happy with 2 M3Ms on a keybed but the setup would be incredibly complex if you want to use them together!
you need both 9-pin DIN cables to connect from keybed to each module. connect them up for synchronisation and patch change but ignore notes and such.
Then you may want to have the same samples loaded on each, or a different set.
But obviously if you blank off all the patches on one, then you can extend combis of the same bank and number onto the other unit. Again working with songs you have to save two SNG files - one on each. So it would begin to get very complicated.
I'd rather have two Radias-Rs and one M3 (or my KARMA).

don't forget that the 9-pin cable-setup
will NOT repeat NOT send split keys, nor will it answer to 2 diffrent midi channels
the direct keyboard cables send always everything on midi channel 1 to both modules
it's then the module which splits midi signals to 16 channels
The setup will be:
keyboard to module 1
keyboard to module 2
module 1 midi out to module 2 midi in
module 2 midi out to module 1 midi in
NEXT, you'll have to sort out midi ins and outs of combi slots and sequencer tracks, filter undesired messages,
discover that in sequencer mode all the kyboard notes are sent to midi out on channel 1 no matter what splits you designed (so, forget 16 midi channel, you'll have 15 midi channels. Plus one all-purtpose but difficult to filter channel 1).
EEEEECCCCCCCHHHHH!!!!
If a mega-studio-in-a-keyboard is your purpose, sell the m3 and buy a second hand Oasys
If the purpose is a wider palette, add a different module (analogue or virtual modular or roland xt) for totally different sounds
You could also think the following:
add a controlling surface.
You'll have the m3 module and, next to it, one of those control surfaces full of slider, knobs, pads, ribbons etc, connected to the m3 module and to your rack modules.
THAT would make the m3-88 a huge control tool, using its available real estate.
