Flash card reader is gone, do I need it?
Hello all, I have a tritone extreme here and the flash card reader does not work, its actually gone, when I look in at it its just an open space with the male pins in the back, there is nothing else there, so im wondering, do i even need this or can i just hook one up to the usb and save and extract that way, or can i buy another flash card reader device and insert it there, any advice would be hugely appreciated, thanks!!

Depends what you want to do.
For all librarian functions (auditioning, loading, and saving pcgs) a USB key is just fine. Having used a bunch I haven't yet found one that doesn't work, and a even a small (typically) 512M key will hold a LOT of PCG's.
Because the extreme trys to look at all the data on the key smaller is actually better (faster) to use, but I've used up to 2 gig USBs without much of a wait. All of my data keys have been below $20 and can be used with any new-ish computer - so once you download a PCG file from the KORGForums download section, you just drag the file to the USB and stick it in the back of the triton and go.
Once the extreme "sees" the data key, transfer is pretty much instantaneous. It's really handy to be able to audition voices before you upload them, which you can just by highlighting them in media mode.
I've seen Korg documentation on Flash drives that seems to indicate that their main function is being able to stream midi [so much so that the few flashes that can't do it are pointed out with a warning]. If you eventually want to ad one, the READERS are around $100US with the assocuiated cards being about $10-20.
