The R3 is plastic sounding junk? Says who?

I got to work on a synth patch that sounds vintage, and the results are pretty nice in my opinion :-)

A sloppy improv I did with the patch, but you get the idea:

The patch itself (create an R3 Library, right click on an empty slot, and open it to put it on your R3):

Have fun tweaking with:
Filter1s cutoff, reso, keytrack, velocity, and EG
Filter2s above, try turning the keytrack to a negative value to add bassiness to the high end
Tube Simulator's saturation, gain, and hicut (I wouldn't low cut for a vintage sound)
Distortion frequencies, width, and gain
Portamento and EG1 for note sloppiness
LFO2 patch destinations and mod amount

Tweaking these params, even a little, can really change the character of the warmth entirely.

Hope you enjoy it and happy tweaking!

tpantano,

Nice job on the vintage patch. Perfect for a vintage geezer like myself. 8) I now have something to look forward to when I get home from work tonight. "Knobs & sliders forever!"

I'm not sure why i was stuck on the word vintage in my description, I meant to say analogue. similar concept though lol

That does sound pretty nice. Interesting character though. Did you use an 'inbetween' filter setting? or just HPF and LPF?

It has a lot of nice punchy rolling bass distortion.

A few tips:
-Reverb is never that nice on bassy synth sounds. Try a delay with a lot of low cut filter %(20-50), or perhaps just a bit of 'early reflections' to give it a more roomy character.
-OR cabinet simulation with 30-60%wet.
-This bass wold really shine if you put more gaps between your phrases (playing style) because of all that punch
