Helo guys. Is it possible for a M50 to change sound without lossing the previous sound? Let say I'm changing from piano, to string sound, I want the last note of the piano to sustain (or hold) & still be heard at least 1 bar of the next note (or sound). Currently I'm using KORG PS1 pedal.

this has been an issue for a very long time and only workstation that can do this perfectly is Roland Fantom-G... There are some workarounds for korgs but I can't remember where to find them... someone post a link to older posts? =)

The only way to achieve this changing sounds is in Program mode, where the sound doesn't cuts off if you sustain it, but the new sound fx's apply to the sustained chord/note.

In combination mode, there are several ways to do this, but changing the patch isn't one of them. You can try:

Using the chord buttons to trigger the notes you want (assigned to the piano sound, but in a different Midi channel), so you play the string sound, but in the chord buttons sounds piano.

Using IFX: Route the string sound to a compressor, with Attack and Sustanin in 1, but the output in 0. Then, control the output with a switch or knob.

I'm sre there are a few more.

Geeze, I hate to tell you this, but the M3 switches programs/combis effortlessly without cutting off sound. You have to program the Karma scene buttons to do this. I strictly use the Karma function for this purpose and this purpose only. It is a Godsend for live performance. I will play a piano program, hold down sustain pedal and push scene button and give me a string/brass/orch combi all without cutting off the sound of the piano. Priceless.

Is this limited to work within one combi... I,mean you cannot change combi with this way? Because on my triton I use sounds that could use eight programs simultaniously and use all of the effects so changing within a combi isn't a cure for this...

Remember that the M3 has 16 part Combis and up to 8 simultaneous effects, so it's way more articulated than the Triton

It has the same amount of effects still... 5 IFX, 2 MFX and master-EQ on triton and 5 IFX, 2 MFX and 1 TFX on M3... So it wouldn't really help that I have 8 more programs since I would need even more effect slots...

Yes, it is limited within that one combi, but remember you have 16 programs within that combi which can be split or layered. The only limitation is the number of FX used. You have 8 total FX, do you really need more for most of your bread and butter programs? As a keyboard player, the majority of my programs I use are piano, organ, strings and some synth. The beauty of using Karma for switching sounds is it just sounds more musical without that cutoff of sound. Stephen Kay has a wiki article on how to achieve this. It is the only thing I use Karma for.

for example my piano program on the triton uses just one program but almost all the effects... my organ uses many programs and almost all the effects... so if I would like to have those two in the same combi I would have to sacrifice loads of effects that really bring stuff to the sound (leslie, overdrive, piano body resonance, reverbs, EQ...)

Well, you'll have to decide. The secret is to achieve the sound that you want with the minimum effects routing. But in the mix, every sounds better

You also have to remember on the M3 each program has seperate EQ, which is awesome. Also, strictly for live performance, FX like piano body resonance will never be heard at the FOH.

Is there any pedal (even if it is meant to be used with a guitar or whatever) that can help achieve this effect?
