If I want to sequence with cubase do I need to put the Triton LE in sequence mode?

Depends on your workflow in cubase.
If you want to send MIDI out to the LE to play its sounds, on multiple tracks, then yes, sequencer mode is a good place to be.
But equally you could just be recording audio tracks into Cubase from your synths, or you could only need the LE for one sound in your track, in which case you may benefit from using the program or combi directly rather than dealing with the effects and other architecture issues of sequencer mode.

best work is done in combi mode in my opinion.
Because uou can save it faster and without recalling when you need it.
For archive, turn it to song , and save it on the disk.
