How do you setup the r3 with Edirol ua 25ex interface and sonar 8.5. I want to record the soft synths in sonar, but all I am recording is just the synth. I plug the ua into computer with usb cable, I plug the r3( midi in) into the ua( midi out) and the r3 midi out into the ua midi in. Is there some parameters I have to set on the r3? Also where is the sound editor for the win7 drivers for the r3?

Win 7, r3, ua-25ex, 4 gigs memory.

The R3 does have a built in USB connection that allows you to use it as a controller keyboard without needing an additional MIDI interface. You just need to install the Korg USB-MIDI driver if you're using the R3's built in USB connection. The R3 will then show up as a MIDI port in sonar.

From there you should just need to load up the instrument you want to use in Sonar and play the keys from the R3. You might need to enable the R3 in some kind of MIDI Input setting in Sonar itself but that is a Sonar problem. Technically the R3 (and most keyboards) is always transmitting MIDI for its controls and keys, even when there is nothing plugged in.

If you want to use the R3's own sounds (that's what you bought it for, right?), then you'll need to hook the Main L & R outputs to the inputs of an audio interface.
