Well, it means (ment?) open. Unfortunately we dont know if there are any more developments to come for the Oasys (which would mean it is still open). Personally I doubt that - but I remember pleasent surprises from the past!
And we can be pretty sure Korg wont "open" the System for 3rd party developments (which would be a true open system). So for now it seems we have no longer an Oasys but a Casys (Closed architecture ....).

Open Architecture, which meant Korg has the possibility to create new instruments and other enhancements. This was opposed to other synths (like the M3) which use a specialized chip architecture that can't be added to.Rocness wrote:Open to what ?MartinHines wrote:Open.Rocness wrote:Can somebody explain what the O in Oasys stands for ?
Unfortunately Korg should not have used this term since many people erroneously thought this meant the platform was open to other developers. Some even thought this meant you could install and run your own software on it (like a PC or Mac).
The STR-1, LAC-1 and MOD-7 were examples of instruments/enhancements that were added later, after the product was first released.

PS - cello, over at the other thread, seems you were getting a hammering with your critique of Korg&Oasys.
Just so you know, I empathise with you (am also in the same boat) and also feel that "bitterness" as you do.
I'd like to somehow push Korg into making that EXf for us.
I think this is the only potential case we could have against Korg - the rest is "tough luck" I'm afraid.
LOL, the workstation formerly known as the Oasys!cello wrote:Which makes me think CASYS closed! Get it? - Case is closed!SoulBe wrote:LOLCharlie wrote: Casys (Closed architecture ....).

ozy
come on, people...
"open" means "open", as in "the door is open".
That doesn't mean somebody will walk IN through that door.
Somebody could walk OUT through the door, and it would still be called "open" in all legitimacy.
So, careful with what you wish for:
Korg could legitimatelly WITHDRAW one or more synth engines from Your Oasys.
After all, you paid for a OPEN system, not for a FULL one.
Now that I think of it, I expect Korg to send a letter to cello & co and have them return some of their engines. "Dear Sir, as you may have heard, etc etc".
Now, THAT will be the day, and THAT will be some thread!
